I replied saying, "I don't"

and she then said... Well I don't either, I just said yes because I thought you did and didnt want to offend you.


Another one of my friends is a non-believer. He just started going to church on Sundays... the reason? He wants to run for public office in a very very conservative are. He must keep up appearance.

I thought of you, Dell, during both recent encounters.

Personally, I dont understand how any intelligent or rational person can take the bible as "fact".

thanks for quoting dell, who i have on ignore. i see he's still parroting the 9/10 line, when the only one who posted that figure was himself.
at any rate, yes, it seems many are too afraid of how they will be perceived to admit their feelings. i posted a link to a slate article a few months back that talked about that, that many are afraid to admit their lack of faith/belief. they don't want to be a pariah.

and no, rational and faith cannot go together. it's impossible. and when people use the bible to advance an argument, they completely ignore the part of the bible that furthers their opponents argument-so they still use their own thoughts and feelings in that regard. and in choosing whether to say 'eye for an eye' rather than 'turn the other cheek' or vice versa.
then there's when you mention parts of the old testament, which has some really bizarre stuff, and you're told 'oh, that part doesn't count'. uh, who says? if that doesn't, how do you know the new t does? it's based on your own thoughts, not on church teachings, if you pick and choose what to follow!
