It's not unprecedented for a MSW race for 2-year-olds to go faster than both the Kentucky Jockey Club and Golden Rod on the same day, at the same distance.

In 2010 Tapizar (previously 3rd and 11th in MSW races at Monmouth, and 4th last time out in a MSW race at Churchill) won an 8.5f MSW race in a time faster than both the winning times of the KyJC (Santiva) and Golden Rod (Katmanblu)

CJ does Churchill Downs.

I trust whatever conclusion he comes to.

Trakus backs up the fact that the KyJC was slower than the 2yo MSW and the Golden Rod. It boils down to a question of the racing surface and if it was slowing down throughout the card.

At a few of my tracks ... it is a common thing where a racing surface will change speed throughout the card. Presque Isle Downs, for instance, the surface always gets faster late in the card. There is a discernable pattern that you see time after time.

I personally don't believe this was the case on this day at Churchill, look at the 10th place finisher of that race!, but CJ has a lot more experience with Churchill Downs than I have.

I didn't do any variant break anywhere on the card. I'll monitor those that come out of the race, but I'm pretty confident it was just a slow race for the class.
