Glad to hear it. It is my home track and been going there since 1978. Had a very good day on Saturday betting from home. Not what is used to be but I love going there I will be there tomorrow, I am in the process of handicapping right now.

Not sure what the handle was but as mentioned before nice crowd. Monmouth website says over 23,000 today. Food truck contest seemed to be a huge hit. Long lines everywhere. Betting windows, food trucks and all other concessions. Not sure they could have had any better of a day all around.

Went yesterday, the place was packed outside, they claimed there were about 10,000 and everyone was outside.

I like to bet online but having grown up going to the track I still love that experince more. Overall they are had a great time ....good day at the windows...smoked a few cigars and washed it down with some beers.

One nice addition was a covered patio bar that was put off the grandstand by the finish line. This with the 2 big screens from last yearI think they are moving in the right direction.

One complaint and I need to see if true is that it appears they are limiting the number of benchs in the grandsatand area where you can bring in a cooler. If so this would be a mistake....summer, Monmouth and coolers at the picnic tables and benches is a tradition...besides there are more drunks which helps me out.

A couple of other complaints are the gouging of fees by management/

1. $4 parking ? Really ! even Belmont did away with parking fees = turnoff

2. Giving the mezzanine level patrons the boot to the upper nose bleed seating unless you buy a seat ticket. Loads of ill will there, for the principle of it afrer 20 years of only paying for a seat in 2 roped off sections nearest the finish line. BTW. the mezz level was near empty

3. Seems, track admins don't get it, you want more on track handle, not drive people out of their seats. As it is, Monmouth gets twice the attendance of Belmont and half the handle at best

Benny

I don't disagree w/ you on your points. they need to be doing everything they can yo get people in there. The parking was way out of line. Also I think they are trying to limit he BYOB bench area to get you to buy from them. This in my is a hugh misatke.

Regarding the attendance Monmouth relies more on it an not so much for Belmont, since alot more of their monies come fron off track or through ADWs. However, Monmouth is off to a fairly good start with very respectable total handles.

For me I could care less about the seat in the stands and have only used them if it rained, otherwise I love to sit outdoors when the weather is nice and have been doing so for 35 years. Even when I went to AC Racecourse on a summer night I would sit in the open club house area.

Agreed. I like to sit in the grandstand mezz and relax on a hot day. And if I have my kid with me I'm lucky to be able to sit for two races. No way I'm paying. I've been talking with a lot of people, and everyone is pissed about this. Maybe they'll reverse this policy soon; I sure hope so. And if they're going to charge $2 for a seat, it better be clean. The sections at the end of the grandstand have a years worth of dust and grime on them.

I don't think that $2 for a seat is unreasonable. That being said they should have kept a couple of free sections at the end of the grandstand.
I would always opt and pay for the better seats closer to the wire anyway. Great view, covered, less crowded and fairly close to the windows.

That would be a reasonable compromise. If I was in it for the whole day, where I could sit and relax I'd pay the two beans. Otherwise it just chaps me. And it's always a tough sell (pun intended) to start charging for something that has been free for decades with absolutely no improvements. It's akin to putting parking meters on every side street in your town. Money grab.

$4 for parking? $2 a seat? A whole $12 for a family of four for a day at the races? What an outrage!

Try going to a Yankee game, you will spend three times that on the parking alone.

I payed $5.00 to go to high school softball playoff game last week to see a friend's daughter play.

I don't understand why people pay to go to every other sporting event, concert, movie etc... Then complain about paying $2. to get into a race track.

Was a Monmouth yesterday and the $2.00 seat charge has been waived for the entire gradstand. Even the 2 sections that you have always had to pay for are now free. According to the security guard, it was a gigantic s.hitshow for the entire memorial Day weekend which lead to Monmouth waiving the charge.
