Default Week 1 is in the books

One week has been completed at the premier summer racing places. As usual, the pools are huge and the competition is fierce.

In my mind, I keep coming back to a guest that Steve had on ATR. It was one of the Night School guys, either Jeremy or Joe. He warned all players to be very careful about attacking multi-race wagers (namely pick 3's and 4's) at these race meetings. His argument was that you could love a price horse, say 12-25 dollar mutuel, and only have it locked up in a sequence. Then some quirky horse pays 70 bucks or more and your left with nothing. Now Steve had a beautiful ticket in Monday's early pick 4. In my terrific wisdom, I tried to save 12 dollars by leaving out Joe Can Gallop. I read a tweet by Andy where I believe he left out the lowest price horse in the sequence. The late sequence was blown up by Angel's South. Yet there was money to be made "in race." The Thomas Hill/Ziptronic race was a nice opportunity. And the last race was rather generous. If you singled the obvious Starship Gambler, every .10 cent super ticket was worth 115 bucks. The same kind of thing was happening at Del Mar as well. A DQ in the last race on Sunday really screwed up some multi race tickets.

I love playing the multi's at both places. But I certainly have seen the wisdom of Joe/Jeremy come to light in the first week.

Best of luck to everyone in week 2!

If you follow and play these guys tickets, Steve especially, why take off any horses to save anything?
I made my only score of the meet so far with a lot of help from Serling. I loved Short Shrift race 2 opening day. I got there early went and watched Talking horses live... Right up front. I was not in love with the winner of the first, but liked the 1,6. I end up using all 3 hooking them with Short Shrift and smashed the $20 double. Pretty good start.
