Washington— An apologetic Dave Agema said Friday he regrets some of his controversial Facebook posts about gays and Muslims but he will not resign as Michigan’s Republican National Committeeman despite mounting pressure from GOP leaders for him to step aside.

In his first interview since failing to show up at the RNC winter meeting here amid a firestorm over his posts, Agema told The Detroit News he was elected by grassroots conservative Republicans who are still counting on him to be their voice and prevent the party from tacking to the left.
