Default NRA's Top Lawyer Convicted of Murder in 1964

Also robbed a museum and then used the guns he stole to hold up a restaurant, according to the article.

Well, give the NRA credit- when it comes to not doing background checks, apparently they practice what they preach.

well..but he really seems to be their kind of guy. i mean, no background checks are what they support.
i wonder what they'll do about the story?

but...isn't his 'reinvention' or whatever you want to call it a good thing? he learned from what happened and has seemingly followed the straight and narrow since.
and if the cops were shady...they were shady. we decry such things all the time. we can't do otherwise in this case, just because the guy happens to be an nra fellow.

From a person who does backgrounds for a living, when a murder conviction or any conviction is overturned there is no conviction.

Juvie records are sealed and thus those arrests wouldn't show either.

Amazing that such a monster was able to honorably serve as a Army Airborne Ranger, go to college and then graduate law school from Howard U. an African American College and apparently remain crime-free for 50 years.

Strange that the fact police recovered .45 bullets from the victim and matched them up with a gun that fires .455 ammunition wasn't part of the appeals process?

I also believe the police claim Dowlut was able to recite the gun's serial number was a bit far fetched. I own several guns and couldn't give one numeral what more the entire serial number of any of them.

Then again why let facts get in the way of the anti second amendment movement!

Hee hee. I started this thread just for you Dell. Seeing as how you couldn't stop yourself from coming into the stabbing Eagles hater one with a completely off-the-wall WalMart comment, I could tell you were bored. Mission accomplished.

And because I love you, here's more for you:

That's so true. The only way you would be able to give the whole number is if you are rehearsing for something.

And one more for you, Dell-

http://www.balloon-juice.com/2014/07...alth-payments/

Since you have made clear in other posts on health care that you feel fat people should be held responsible for their lifestyle choices I am curious as to what you feel about doctors talking to parents about gun ownership. Do you support insurance companies not paying for treatment of people for gunshot wounds due to their own negligence?

As I said earlier, I really posted this for Dell.

But yes, I generally support rehabilitation. And it's quite impressive that a thief, armed robber, assaulter-with-a-deadly weapon (the pawn shop owner he shot but didn't kill) and (likely) murderer turned his life around.

The full article, at Mother Jones, gives more detail on the investigation and is really interesting reading:
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/...murder-mystery

Regardless of whether I think the guy did it (and I do), shoddy police work is shoddy police work and confessions and convictions based on bad work should be overturned. The NYPD, for example, is under a lot of fire right now as more and more instances of chokeholds (the latest on a 7 month pregnant woman) come to light. Chokeholds having been outlawed here as a police tactic since the 1990s.
