Default Indygita GP R8 12-17-14 $37k Turf Alw 2YO

INDYGITA rode along the rail mid-pack, then swung out 3 wide at top of stretch, but was boxed in by the #4. Forced inside, she closed between horses a strong fourth behind 2YO fillies trained by Motion, Pletcher and Maker.

The Howard Mills trained filly went off at 79-1. Could provide value next time out.

Cheers,

Otis

Indygita running today GP10. ML odds are 20-1.

Steps up from a $37k allowance to $48k and gets a jockey change. Connections must think she is on the improve.

Last three Timeform figs 71-71-59, suggest she has paired a couple tops, but she would have run faster if not blocked in the stretch in the last race. I will include her in my exotics and multi-race wagers.

Cheers,

Otis

Indygita is entered to run on Friday at Gulfstream in the 9th race and will probably go off at double-digits again.

So I am looking back on this 12/17 race and trying to assess the class of three young turfers that finished ahead of Indygita, who was blocked in the stretch.

The winner Miss Temple City finished a game 3rd (led throughout and beaten by a length) on Jan 24 in the G3 Sweetest Chant. Her BSF increased from 72 on 12/17 to 79. She beat the probable favorite in Friday's race (Nicky's Brown Miss) by 2.25 lengths. This is a promising class angle...

Here's where it gets tricky: the Pletcher filly Back Flip and the Motion filly Magnificent Margo next ran in a non-wagering event called the OBS Breeder Stakes $100k, finishing 3rd and 7th respectively and Beyers of 63 and 59.

But how should a handicapper assess these non-wagering races? Are the horses there for a workout and not being fully extended? Maybe somebody can help me, because I am really not familiar with how these OBS races work.

Really complicates things when trying to weigh the strength of this race. You almost have to start getting into the trainers' minds. Do Pletcher and Motion LOVE their horses and want to feature them - or are they just enigmas?

Head-scratcher!

Otis

I've had a lot of winners coming out of those races, i would say they're stronger than they look.

Thanks! That helps give me more confidence in her form. But I have serious questions about the T/J.

Maybe she'll get up into the super again at huge odds, like she did against those 12/17 stakes horses. It's a turf route race for young developing fillies and she's a closer, so you never know...

Cheers,

Otis

Well, it only took 5 months, but Indygita finally won a race today at Aqueduct. Somehow went off as the favorite and paid less than $6.00

Definitely not enough to pay for all the bets I put on this one, but glad to bring this thread to closure!
