![]() I know Solyndra was one of the right-wing's favorite shouting points (it was brought up on this very forum several times. The hive mind is strong) but this is a piece about the long term outcome of the program that lent it money.

![]() One thing the author ignores and likely on purpose rather than ignorance is the subsidies paid out by the Federal Government specific to renewable energy that comes to roughly $16 billion per year. So while the $34 billion loan program since 2005 is in the black as of 2012 and expecting interest payments of $5-$6 billion per year to continue until 2022; without eliminating the subsidies we'll be losing $10-$11 billion per year until 2022 and $16 billion per year after that.
Imagine what would happen if say McDonald's stated anticipated profits of $5-$6 billion per year to shareholders and the SEC on a new all-heart healthy menu and left out they planned to print $16 billion in coupons per year. ![]()
