Default Twin Exacta

We've been bouncing around some bet ideas and I was curious what people think about a twin exacta bet, where you have to hit two straight exactas?

Absolutely a great idea. Charles Town had the wager in the late 70's. The handful of times I observed the payouts they seemed generous and I was intrigued. Before I could practice playing they ended the wager. I'm all for it.

Sounds exciting , especially with a nice 15% takeout. They used to have a wicked twin tri at the Rock (RIP)

As long as my bookie will take the bet, I'll play it.

An hour flat up Rt.38 from Lowell HS on a 10 Speed. Nice black Fuji. Cut after lunch...there by post. Had my own special parking spot in bottom lot near kitchen entrance. Sneak right in. Got "friendly" with girl working the bar who would drive Fuji and I back to the city at 6:00. Nice girl....good times.

Took her to Saratoga with me a few years later (The girl, not the faithful bike) to watch Shugs' Heavenly Prize devour Lakeway on the turn in the Alabama. You always remember your first (Saratoga visit, not the girl).

Possible carryover question should be dealt with in advance, while highly unlikely certainly possible

This is great and I would play it.

One drawback could be the difficulty of entering tickets in or telling a teller what you are betting. I'm assuming you could box each leg, then box the second leg. Might be hard for novices to grasp.

Would it be like the old twin tri, where you got as many combos as you scored for in the first leg ($6 base bet win gave you 6 combos in the second leg)? Or would it be like 6 combos in the first leg * 12 in the second = $72?

Love the idea either way.

Definitely think it would be a great inclusion to the wagering menu, especially in the middle of the card. It would fit perfectly in between the early and late Pick Fours.

The Quinela Double has been an extremely popular wager for years at most Florida dog tracks and usually offers tremendous value.

I am very much intrigued, this is something i would definitely consider playing. Tip of the cap to NYRA, would love to hear any new ideas. Anything to keep things growing, especially for the players!

I have an idea. Make multi race wagers more inviting to play by allowing me to make my choice up until post time for every leg.

The twin-quin and double-exacta ideas have both been played out at racetracks in history, but to be honest, Andy, I would like to see NYRA try to pioneer something in the way of a new bet. While the Grand Slam is interesting and fun (pick three straight show horses followed by a single race winner), I would like to see something constructed like they have in Hong Kong : pick two of the first three finishers to move onto the next leg.

Thanks for asking for input, Andy. Some interesting ideas. Not sure if some of the structures would be feasible in today's world with so much ADW money. Some of these wagers were done at smaller tracks and before ADW's. Making two transactions on a multi-race bet could be more complex for both track and bettors for the money it's bringing in. I think twin quinellas, twin exacta's and twin tris could all work somewhat.

One of the nice things you have in NYRA is one of the largets labs in the country. The data from pools could show you pretty quickly what a new wager would do. Especially the effect on other pools and handle.

I like the Grand Slam and will play it when at SAR. It seems to be popular with the crowd and especially smaller bankroll, occasional players. It gives you some wiggle room in 3 legs so has some forgiveness built in an lets people stay live in a multi-race wager without being perfect. It works much better with large fields and payouts can be good at SAR. It's not that attractive at BEL and AQU on smaĺler fields. Big day cards there it works good. I'm in PA and restricted by zip code to only 2 ADW's (Parx and Harrah's TVG-pabets) and neither of them offer the Grand Slam on NYRA.
