Default Venue for August 25 Contests

Was there ever any doubt?

When we have the premier race day of the premier race meeting, there was no alternative choice. We're going to enjoy Travers Day at Saratoga, a very full day of racing.

The card includes the Grade 2 Woodford Reserve Ballston Spa, the Grade 1 Forego, the Grade 1 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial, the Grade 1 Ketel One Ballerina, the Grade 1 Personal Ensign, the Grade 1 Sword Dancer and the midsummer derby, the Grade 1 Travers (I refuse to call it the Runhappy Travers). I think that entries should be available later today.

NBC is providing TV coverage from 4-6 PM Eastern.

Hope to see all of you in the starting gate.

LOL in fact, he is represented by TWO races. Wow!

H. Allen Jerkens Presented by Runhappy (GI)
Runhappy Travers S (GI)

Odd that a sprinter is named with a 10F race. But then, there are other races named after horses for which that horse never ran (like turf races named after dirt horses, etc).

It's always a good warm up for the Gallivan Cup but for some reason Churchill doesn't make my head spin anywhere near as much as The Spa and maybe that's because we pretty much know the premier horses running in the Breeders Cup . . . not all, but more than most other cards. And we know CD is pretty fair and if the horses run their race they too are more dependable and handicappable (not a real word I know) then getting blind sided by a 40-1 shot who takes us all down.

It'll be a fun day in the eastern Adirondacks and I hope it's sunny and cool like it easily can be!!!

OK, this is why it's the Runhappy Travers:

@KANZ1981TMTC
Replying to @Plenilune1973
@LindaC2010 @TheNYRA sponsorship. Gallery Furniture. Plus a filly or mare winning a G1 on Sat will get a free Runhappy cover.

I love Twitter for horse racing info!

To help you prepare for the ROI on Saturday:

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – With 13 races on the card, there will be a slight tweak to the wagering menu for Saturday’s Travers Day program.

There will be three pick-four wagers on the program, starting with races 2, 8, and 10. The pick four that begins with race 8 comprises the Ballerina, Forego, Sword Dancer, and Travers. The pool for that pick four is guaranteed at $1 million.

The pick six begins on race 6, so it won’t be the final six races on the card, and will consist of all Grade 1 stakes races, starting with the H. Allen Jerkens and concluding with the Travers.

The NYRA Bets pick five will be on races 7-11. If there is only one winning ticket, the payout will be $1 million. The late pick five is available only to those with a NYRA Bets account or those playing at a New York state track or simulcast facility.

There will be five hours of television coverage from Saratoga on Saturday. There will be a three-hour “Saratoga Live” broadcast from 1-4 p.m. on Fox Sports 2, MSG Plus, and other regional cable outlets. NBC will have a two-hour broadcast from 4-6 p.m., during which it will show the Sword Dancer and Travers.

I can't watch anything with MSG in it. MSG is not good for you . . . SORRY just couldn't resist and MSG Plus no less?! And thanks JB for the very good "poop".
