![]() I'd like to express my disagreement with the way that Ruffian has posted picks for Race 4. I have always thought that we were permitted to make 5 picks in each race, and would be scored on the first three on our list that actually ran. The extra two picks were to provide a cushion in case a couple of our picks scratched. That provides some protection for players who post picks early and then tend to other responsibilities on the day of the race, or to take into account massive late scratches if a race is taken off of the turf late in the day.
As I understand the picks for Race 4, Ruffian would like to also include a selection of a 6th pick, just in case both of the two AE horses (#13 & #16) do not run and someone else scratches. If we are allowed 5 choices, why should any player be able to make a 6th choice, just in case some picks don't run? To me, that is no different than saying that I would like to also pick #6 in addition to my 5 just in case several of my other picks are scratched. The fact that a couple of our selections are "also eligible", making the chances of their not running somewhat higher, really should not make a difference. I may be off base in making this observation. If so, I'll be glad to apologize. But I would like to have our other more experienced players weight in on whether "you may pick 5 horses" really means "you may pick 5 horses", or whether it can mean something beyond that just because some horses are stuck on an also eligible list. |

No ruffled feathers, though. Just a feeling that we should all be playing on the same level field, whether we are playing for matchsticks or gold. |
