Default December 26th Venue

I just wanted to put this out early for feedback. I myself would like to take a week off the day after Christmas. I wouldn't object to missing the following Saturday either. Even with Covid restrictions some of us might be hard pressed for time to handicap on a Holiday. But I would like to see what other players thoughts are on the subject.

I'll gladly support RQ's suggestion that we not have our contest on Dec 26 despite it's being opening day at Santa Anita. Even though our Christmas will be much quieter than usual, I really don't want to spend part of Christmas day preparing for a Saturday contest.

As to his suggestion about the day after New Year's Day, I don't have strong feelings one way or the other and would happily go along with whatever the rest of the group wants. I learned years ago that the New Year would arrive whether I stayed up to greet it or not; I still make sure time is reserved on New Year's Day to watch the Vienna Philharmonic's concert on PBS - always a very enjoyable performance.

Taking those days off Ok by me. Wish I could say I had something to do on those days, but I don't. This close to rolling out the vaccine, I will likely just be hiding in my anti-Covid fortress until I can get the shot and hope that it isn't all that many weeks down the road. Besides, if I get too desperate for something to do, I can always play a few real dollars on whatever races are coming up.
Hazardous to my wealth, but not spending many dollars these days anyway so I doubt I'll miss whatever I spend on a few races.

Yes, pretty customary we take the contest off around Christmas. Think we've been doing this for a number of years. I'll make the decision to not have a contest Dec 26 . . . since I pull down the big bucks here , I can do that .

BTW I'm due a raise in 2021. Y'all forgot me this time last year.

The Social Security CPI increase for 2021 is 1.3%. Since you are 10 times better than that, I would recommend that you get a 13% increase over your base compensation, plus an equal increase in any residuals. And a second cup of coffee.

That's fine with me....although I'm the newbie to the group. I'll probably be looking at Santa Anita for opening day, too. But I think my daughter's and their families and I are getting together on Saturday for a mask-wearing gift exchange.

Have a Merry Christmas, everyone!
