Baffert, Baffert, Baffert . . . you sneaky devil you!!!
Nobody in our "brain trust" had Medina Spirit to win on the lead. RQ was the only one that had him hitting the board in the show spot. Baffert surprised himself and many others . . . or did he??? Lesson, learned, never ignore Baffert in a race and Baffert-Johnny V combo.
Quite amazing. I just hope he turns out to be the horse we can all cheer for for the next two.

This is the best possible outcome. A horse with no breeding, and hopefully he will stick around to race.

Grandsire is Giant's Causeway. No breeding? And he won The Derby he'll be retired after this year like most of the rest. The way the "business" is now.

I'm not sure if Medina Spirit will win next, but he has a great pedigree. His dam is a black type producer when many are just broodmares. His sire had an impressive career at longer distances. pedigreequery.com
WPS were all mid-pack runners by my calculations and that makes sense. I did not pick my winners that way in the contest, but hindsight is.... |

I agree, although his pedigree is great, I always think that west coast entries might be suspect. We'll see what happens. Lots of Baffert hate on Twitter tonight.

Why? Same folks that hate seeing Clemson and Alabama in the College football playoffs and winning most of the time. Ignore them, sounds like they no little of the sport.
