Last year we started on Race 3. This year are we doing them all? The first and fourteen are maiden races.

RQ, I was thinking about that but as Ruffian said I had my big boy pants on

Good suggestion though . . . some have already started, like Mr Eager Beaver Cal, and have the whole card done.

Ending a great Derby Day at twilight on a maiden race just doesn't make sense. I guess quantity trump's quality. But I too have picked races 1 and 14 so I'm good to go.

Players have already capped the full card and are posting selections, so I'm not suggesting any changes for this year.

I do think that RQ has made a valid point that we could consider on future Derby Day contests. After all, CD probably cards the final two races primarily to keep some of the 150,000 fans around for an extra hour and keep everyone from rushing to the parking lots immediately after the Derby. Traffic is bad enough as it is.

I'd go a little further than RQ and suggest that the most elegant way to conclude a Derby Day contest would be to end it with the Derby. But, I'm just a simple kind of guy.

Good luck to all and hope that you enjoy a very full day of racing.

Actually, what I said was misleading. I said I was through handicapping which meant I was done with all I was going to do. In reality, I really did fairly in depth handicapping with notes and all for about 8 of the 15 races. The rest I will just briefly scan for a few minutes. For a normal card, usually don't do in depth more than 3 or 4 races so I guess you could say I overdo it on the races I'm interested in playing and probably don't do enough for the rest, but big races like the Triple Crown and Breeder's Cup can really give a person information overload after you do your handicapping and listen to all the buzz. I used to read just about everything I could, but these days, I try to keep my own counsel as dangerous as that is.

I stopped reading and reading what the so called experts say long ago. It just clouds my simple mind and approach. All there conflicting "notions" have proved to be little if any help to me.

Another Thing That Frosts My Whiskers 😼🙀😾

ON TV 📺

The “ Experts “ At The Desk
Discussing the days event
Somehow always manage to focus on the very top favorites
They give absolutely no attention to the rest of the field

And then what happens?
A long shot wins that they never even talked about

In my opinion every horse that has qualified to run
Deserves to be mentioned and appreciated
