Default Venue thoughts for March 15

Beware the Ides of March!

For this Saturday I'd like to take our small but enthusiastic group to a track that we seldom visit. I think that the best couple of stakes races on that day are the Virginia Oaks and the Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs in New Kent, Virginia (that's about halfway between Richmond and Williamsburg).

For the first time the Virginia Derby will award KY Derby qualifying points. While some of the earlier races have kind of smallish fields, the card has attracted a number of top jockeys and trainers.

I suggest that we play the full 10 race card, with all of the races on the dirt.

Nice choice! I wanted to go, but the indoor seats were sold out early. In March in Virginia, it could be 75 degrees...could be 35, so inside is recommended, I think.
