Default No More TVG For Me

I had Adelphia Digital Cable for a long time but they were recently bought by Time Warner Cable. Time Warner is still carrying TVG right now for the Adelphia customers, but they say that they don't have a contract with TVG and they will be discontinuing it starting January 9th. I can't believe it. I have called and complained to both TVG and Time Warner. I hope they can make a deal before that date comes. I can't believe that I'm not going to have TVG any more.

Is anyone here on the same boat as me? If you are, please send e-mails and make phone calls to both Time Warner and TVG. Maybe if they get enough complaints they will work out ther differences and make a deal.

I still shake my head everytime I hear a ""cable company cant give you a channel"".. I have had (old name primestar) directv for over 10 years now. Just like the NFL network, how can a cable company NOT give you that... Opps I forgot it comes to $$$$$$$$$.. Its amazing they run a cable to your house, you send a check every month and THEY tell you what you can watch or NOT watch. Or the best is.. ""we dont have a channel for that, and we would have to TAKE off a channel."" If everyone just stopped cable for ONE month, I wonder HOW fast they would change ? These cable owners are making a fortune , and could care less about each homeowner.

It would be very hard for me to get a dish where I live. I live in a high-rise condominium and I face North. They would have to put the dish on top of the building. The board of directors would have to approve it. It would be a huge deal. I know that a group of homeowners here had considered it just recently, but there were so many issues that they didn't end up doing it. I think the cost was going to be very high too. The wiring is supposedly very complex.

I haven't totally ruled it out. I need to look into it further but it sounds like it would be a huge hassle and may even cost several thousand dollars.

Rupert...I live in a condo (not a high rise) and they were able to install a single dish outside and then link it to the existing cable box (the main one outside) since the cable is already hardwired into the building the dish can be accessed using the existing cable jacks in the condos...I don't know all the details but apparently it's perfectly legal. It allowed the board to approve it because there wouldn't be a bunch of different dishes attached to the building nor would they be drilling holes in the walls etc to install the witing.

Hopefully they can do something similar here.

I might be able to get Dish Networks. I just called one of their distributors and told him the situation at my building. He seemed to think we could do it and it wouldn't be all that expensive. He said the initial set-up may not be nearly as expensive as I thought. He said that even worst case scenario he didn't think it would cost more than $1,000 or so.

My initial cost was $249 for installation and equipment which included an HD-DVR so will be cheaper if you don't want that. $49 I got back when I activated the dish. I also got $20 off my bill for the first ten months. So essentially it was free installation. Check their website, it is pretty easy to setup on there and they even have a feature where you can chat with a customer service rep if you run into any problems.

He said that would be the worst case scenario. He said it may only cost a few hundred dollars. It would just depend on the set-up at my building. He said it would depend whether they could use some of the cables that are already in the building. If not, they would have to run cables all the way from the roof(it's a 13 story building) to my unit on the 10th floor, and then all the way down to the basement. It might be a pretty big job.

lol
i was about to agree with you until i realized that's how much i paid out to get satellite internet.
dial up sucked, and wasn't going to get better anytime soon. no cable out here in the middle of nowhere. so i have dishnetwork for the t.v., and direcway for the internet. they're wonderful.

as for losing signal, only in the worst weather, when it'd probably be best to turn off computers, etc anyway. interesting tho that dish goes before the internet. so, yeah, two dishes, but plenty of yard so it's no big deal.
