Default Santa Anita - Race 5 on 1/1/07

Anyone see those works on Painted Shadow for his debut. I know Baffert likes to send them in the morning but he has a particular long string of works with a recent 1:10 and 3 for 6F and a back 58 and 2 from the gate....

I would assume that the word is out on this one .....

That is the type of horse that you single on the end of a pick three ticket, with the reasoning you have, will probably be 7/5, but the value will be in the pick threes because none knowing people will spread in that race

He's got Squeeze Now going as well. This horse has put together some decent works, but not quite as strong as Painted Shadow. What do you think, a little 1,2 for Baffert here?

Looks impressive. The only draw back is that he draws the last post with nobody in the post outside of him. There are others in the race that look like they can ran some too.

Luberon, but bad post again, but made a willing move in first start.

Speedy Jones, But trainer rarely has them ready ot win in the first start.

Choctaw Chief, Just sounds fast Solis / Headley

Squeeze Now, Hate it when Baffert has 2 horses with one being a single.

Come Over Again, Intresting possibility

Can anyone explain what Stute is think by having Can This Be True run insane bullets (34.2 and 46.2) two days before he runs this horse? Didn't he notice that his horse tired last race after dueling for the lead? I guess I can understand doing that 4-5 days before a race but why TWO days before? Does anyone here believe that this is a good thing?

Apparently this is a VERY good thing - Wow! Nice job holding off the Baffert horse... I stand corrected and will respect this trainer a bit more.

You know, I am FUMING at myself right now about this horse. He took a ton of money last time and ran 2nd to Bafferts 2nd out winner Tenfold on opening day. A great play back because the connections obviously saw something to bet him down to 11/2 first out (into Tenfold who was like even money first out) and now he scores as a $30 horse.....unbelievable

One of my favorite angles too, playing a horse back 2nd out, after taking action in their debut

Default Fave loses

kind of glad fave lost - maybe Baffert can ease up on him a bit and we get better odds next out

Race shows what a speed favoring track SA is

Areyoutalkintome is my play here. Fresh horse. May have 3 up front early. Bushwacker, Roi, and Proud Tower. Looking for Areyoutalkintome to sit right off here. Hopefully get 4/1 or 5/1. Harvard Avenue scares me.

I'm taking my shot on Roi. Hopefully his speed can hold up for 5.5 furlongs.

I think you really need to bet against horses like Proud Tower Too in this spot. If I thought he was too good for these, I would probably skip the race.
I may not bet this race because I am having trouble deciding between a couple of these. If I dont bet it, I will root for Proud Tower Too. Hes a very neat horse.

I think the odds will end up like this:

Proud Tower Too 9/5
Harvard Avenue 5/2
Areyoutalkingtome 7/2
Roi Charmant 6/1
Bushwacker 10/1
Premium Saltine 15/1
Red Warrior 15/1

Very well could be too good for these. But..... The pace will be super hot. He hasn't ran since March. If he get's out like I think, I don't see him holding up. Didn't see the race, so I may be way off here, but Areyou beat him in the CalCup last year and ran 3rd to him race after. I see Proud at 8/5 or lower. You give me 4 or 5/1 on Areyou, then I'm taking that. I'm afraid Harvard may just get both of them.

I dont see Proud Tower Too making the lead in here. For some reason I think Bushwacker gets it. Roi Charmant is fast too and he will be there.

Hot pace, I agree. I'd have to bet a closer in here.

Hot pace but a 5.5 furlong race at Santa Anita isn't a great spot for a closer. Bushwhacker is going to have to go faster early than he ever has if he is going to get ahead of Roi or even PTT.

I like Epic Power and Sherwood Park in that.Don't like Palma much. The Frankel would not surprise me,but seems like he would use Flores or Solis etc. if he was ready.

I boxed 2-9-12

so if you don't have those 3 you should be in good shape.
