Just found this:
Takeover Target Number One Ranked Turf Sprinter in World Australia`s champion sprinter Takeover Target has been named the World`s best Turf Sprinter, with the annual release of the World Thoroughbred Rankings. On the World Scale, Takeover Target rates a 120, which, although assessed in pounds and not points, can be compared fairly well to Expertform`s rating of 121 for the champion galloper. The top ranked galloper in the world has caused controversy, with Deep Impact not being ranked number 1, that honour has gone to Argentinian galloper Invasor. Invasor achieved a world ranking of 129, two pounds ahead of Deep Impact`s 127. Racing Post chief correspondent James Willoughby says, "On the face of it, the notion that Invasor was the best racehorse in the world during 2006 is difficult to believe." However, the handicappers in charge of the World Rankings see it otherwise. They say that the class of horse Deep Impact defeated was not as high as those Invasor defeated. "That`s why Invasor comes out so highly, for beating a very good field in the Breeders` Cup." says Ireland`s senior handicapper Garry O`Gorman. Britain`s chief handicapper Nigel Gray stated that Deep Impact was "majestic in Japan, but then he didn`t come across the quality of horses that he ran against in the Arc...We`re certain that a rating of 127 is appropriate for what Deep Impact has done, given that it fits in with horses that ran in the Melbourne Cup. We`ve given him as much credit for that last run as we felt we could." This is in line with Expertform`s theory on ratings - you rate well by defeating class opposition, not by thrashing nobodies. The rating of Takeover Target is perhaps a shade low, and on the world scale he deserves to rate around the 122 mark. |
