![]() I will have to say that West Virginia is progressive when it comes to gaming. There is a bill that would allow the tracks in WV to have table games. This bill is in response to PA getting slots. I wish other states (KY and Ohio) would follow WV. Other sources of purse revenue has helped WV racing over the past decade. It is good to see the state trying to make racing a good product.

![]() Considering the disasterous condition of the state's economy, they have to stay ahead of their neighbors to keep the bus loads of cash coming in. I don't have the exact figures, but you would be amazed at what percentage the revenue from slots, dogs, and horses represents in the overall picture of the state's total income. Scary, really.

As BTW mentioned, for dog tracks, Cross Lanes (between Charleston and Huntington) and one up near Wheeling (can't think of the name off hand) which is not all that far from Mountaineer. |

Mountaineer is in the upper pan-handle near Pitt. i believe. Wheeling Downs: home of the $3 perfecta (dog track) is upstate as well also near Pitt. Cross Lanes (dog track) is in Charleston, WV: 40 miles or so from the WV-KY-OH border Charles Town is in Ranson, WV about 60 miles outside of Washington DC No OTB's that i know of This table game thing has been long proposed thing, around 2-3 years ago when i was at school (Marshall University, about 10 miles from the KY border and 2 miles from the OH border) they wanted to put a casino in downtown Huntington near the Marshall campus, it got shot down. If any state needs the revenue it's WV. I believe it's one of the poorest states in the US next to Mississippii, believe it or not who has all kinds of casinos. Closest casino is about 10 miles past L'Ville in Indiana (which is around 220 miles from Huntington), Ceasars on the Ohio River. Indiana also has another casino some where further north. Personally, i wouldn't want see the state get the table license, but they could use the money. Like i said this was a proposed issue a couple years ago, why it would get passed now with how well the slots are already doing is beyond me -bt- |

True, but i want no part of traveling anywhere in the state of OHIO, cops there are notorious for pulling people over for going 56 in a 55, and it also makes no sense to drive to Lexington then (which is 110+ miles) then take 75 North, which in the end is around the same distance to get to L'ville. Plus, i have never made the trip solely to head to Ceasars, its always been a detour whenever im near Churchill. But i would gladly drive the extra 40 miles to stay on 64 West. -bt- |
