Not exactly a household name but her heroic actions during the holocaust should never go without mention.She was the woman who hid Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis in Amsterdam.If not for a traitor the entire family might have survived.A true hero in my eyes she turns 98 today,still living in Amsterdam.The world could use more people like you Miep Gies.Happy Birthday.

I don't know if you caught it, but today 68 documents of Anne Frank's father were released. I'll have to google to find where they're located.
The sum and substance was that in 1938, when he was attemping to find sactuary for his family, the US wouldn't grant him a visa. Plan B was the hope of going to Cuba. Time ran out before the "red tape" did.
Alas, he tried to save them. So did Miep Gies.
Courage in the face of adversity is something I applaud.
