![]() Bet Twice now there is a blast from the past. He was one of my all time favorite horses. I was at Monmouth Park for his Haskell victory over Lost Code and Alysheba. I also followed him to Saratoga for his or should I say Java Gold's Traver's and to Atlantic City for the 1988 UN won by Manila and the Meadowlands for the Meadowlands Cup.
I remember thinking that Warren A. "Jimmy" Croll was messing with him too much, running him on the turf, putting blinkers on him. It was such a shame to see him end his career in the BC Mile on turf. I think the crop of 1984 was one of the best, even though at the time people thought it was a "weak" crop. Looking back now at all of the great horses to come out of it: Alysheba Bet Twice Java Gold Gulch Personal Ensign Gone West Cryptoclearance Lost Code Tejano and I'm sure that I'm fogetting some. |
