Plugged Nickel was in the race with her, and regarded. At the time, there was a joke circulating about a guy having a dream and receiving divine instructions in the dream to bet the #5 horse in the 5th race at his track the next day. So he went to the track, opened the program, and discovered the #5 horse in the 5th race was named "Double Nickel." Delirious with the irony of his good fortune, he went and put $55 on the horse to "Win." Relating the dream, and his actions, to his friend the next day, his friend asked "Did the horse win?" "Nope," was the reply. "Ran 5th." ...back to my point......I had a dream about that Derby involving "Plugged Nickel." I was a regular attendee at the South Florida tracks in those days. In my dream, I was told "bet the filly." I arranged to get a bet in, through a friend. I shared my dream before I bet. He asked, "you really want the filly?" "Yep, it was my dream." I found out later, he decided to eat a good part of the bet. Since I had shared my knowledge in advance, I have never felt bad about making him pay. :-) Funny how "$50 across the board" quickly evaporated from being a power bet of choice with the passage of years! |
