Thanks to the powers that be for increasing our Big Race Day bankroll to $200. I'm not going to speculate with it in the pick 6, even though it is wonderful to have an all Grade 1 pick 6. NYRA has increased the base bet to $1, and I think that the sequence could be somewhat chalky. Besides, I haven't tried the delightful Grand Slam for some time. Here goes, with the hope that I can hit it multiple times. Sorry RQ.
Race 9: $12 Grand Slam: 2,6 / 4,6 / 1,6,7 / 2 [$144] $4 Grand Slam: 2,6 / 4,6 / 1,6,7 / 1 [$48] Good luck to all and my sympathies to Real Quiet for scoring. |

I'm so glad that I didn't talk myself into playing the pick 6 on Saturday. In a post, I said that it might be chalky, but I didn't dream how much. The sequence included 3 winners who were odds on winners, two more post time favorites and one who was the ML favorite and a very close second choice in the wagering.
Picking 6 of 6 grade 1 winners for $1 earned you $113. Several of the races did not appear as formful on paper as they ended up on the track. I thought that the Forego had 4 legitimate contenders and the Sword Dancer about the same. If I had been putting a pick 6 ticket together, I probably would have gone 1x4x2x2x4x2 and felt very confident of success. Perhaps I might have been a little more aggressive with a single of Letruska and/or Essential Quality, but that may be more in hindsight. That ticket would have cost $128 for $1. Of course, there would have been enough consolation 5 out of 6 at $4.05 each to probably put the bet into positive territory and keep RQ from ever talking to me again, but all in all that is not the type of payoff one would expect from "nailing" the pick 6. As it was, I think that I hit the Grand Slam 48 times and still lost a few dollars in the bargain. It's a great game. |

Yep, it was a chalk fest for sure. I kept thinking that Essential Quality might get beat, but he seems to be aptly named as he nearly always has the essential quality needed to grind out a close win. Watching him not for the faint of heart. Was also hoping that Japan would spring a mild upset. Initially, I didn't like him at all, but noticed that he was dropping off 20 lbs from his last race so figured he would soar like Pegasus and he ran well, but was a little farther back then Gufo when he commenced his rally and fell a little short. Pretty much the story of my day, but better than watching 24 hour coverage of Covid or Afghanistan or myriad other problems of the moment. Grateful for the distraction.

I appreciate the "heads up" on your Grand Slam bet JB. It only seems to get dicey when there are late scratches. Hopefully it was scored correctly.
