Default 1/24: Santa Anita Carryover

Outrageous doings at Tampa Tuesday with two races impacted by embarassing non-action by the stewards in incidents involving favorites. The 6th race choice Murphy Style was caught in the gate by the starter when attempting to 'beat the bell', reared and spotted the field 10 lengths. Should have been declared a non-starter...

90 minutes later, 9th race fave Diplomatic Charm broke through the gate TWICE but was allowed to run when he should have been scratched. He finished last. In addition to the wrong-headedness of not scratching Diplomatic Charm at the gate, the seven horses that loaded before the public's betting preference were not backed out and stood for at least 7 minutes in the gate. Wild Inquiry, the #9, had NOT loaded and was given the benefit of beinf able to mingle with an outrider behind the gate the entire time. He ended up the winner.

The choice(s) not to act by the stewards in both cases is tantamount to theivery against the betting public and was an egregious diservice to the trainers and owners of the 7 horses in the 9th who were unfairly stuck in the gate for an unendurable period. This was a pathetic pair of unforgiveable incidents that should prevent gamblers from including Tampa on their wagering schedules...

The above is not a 'sour grapes' gripe either, as the lucrative P3 and P4 results were available to ATRAB listeners on Monday nights broadcast, though tinkering with the written selections at Derby Trail Tuesday morning botched the multi-race plays for readers..

SANTA ANITA CARRYOVER IRRESISTABLE..

Santa Anita's $700,000+ double carryover pot will swell to more than $3,000,000, and the sextet of races is a tricky read. It will likely take "pro player" type investment money to hit this "6", so narrow budget plays may be fool-hardy. One benefit though of looking deeply into a P6 series like this though is the opportunities that can become apparent for individual race plays or a DD/P3/P4 tries... Here's my view..

Thumbs up

Thanks for posting your selections so early. Very helpful for such a confusing card.

I must admit I wouldn't be going to the track if not for the huge carryover... I may still decide to give it a pass and save my bankroll for a planned trip to Santa Anita this Saturday for the Sunshine Millions....

I can't believe you have no mention of Maxii Arte, I thought for sure you would be all over this horse. I think a jock switch also which I remember thinking that was a positive (having a job really sucks becuase I can't verify these things )

Speed/Fade off the layoff, good fig off that lay, about 65% to at top/pair.....

I only see that race as 8,9....no one else

In the final race today at SA, I really think that the 14 "Scarface" has a big chance today. Yet i must be the only one because I have not seen him mentioned much at all on any of the SA threads.

Granted the post is no bargain and the connections are not well known, but the form and speed that this one shows to me really stands out. Plus I love the blks off move today. It just seems odd that a horse that is 9-2 on the morning line is getting so little attention on this board. I almost made him a single on my PK6 ticket but opted to include the more obvious Highly Gallant.

I liked him too orginally, but I have a hard time making a case for a 6-yo maiden, despite being lightly raced. And I realize the 11 is no spring chicken either to be running here, but I'll single him in my pk6 due to budget issus, but would include both (along with the 6,7 and 12) if I had deeper pockets today.

I like him, too. He'll be on my ticket if I play and most likely the 10 and 11. I'd like to have more (6 or 8), but it'll make my ticket way too expensive.

He is on my ticket in the Contest.

I also liked the 9, Alluring Eyes in the 3rd race, 4, Peace and Love in the 4th, 1, In My Life in the 6th, and the 3, Bush Prowler in the 8th, but couldn't get them on my ticket.

Here's the ticket that me and 5 others are placing today.

3) 5,10,12
Don't think the two prior dirt efforts by the 5 were due to the surface, but she is bred for turf. Big drop in class of the layoff, and could be live considering she ran fairly competitively last year against Balance, Foxysox, etc..

4) 2,6,8
If Red Opal doesn't get to the finish line, I'm hoping it's because Mashina and Corey Nakatani make a clever, ground saving trip to win. Moogie fits on class and has run well down the hill.

5) 4,6,7,12
I think the 4 logical horses are covered. I'll let the 8 and 9 beat me if they can.
6) 4,7
Wanted to single Court Seeker, but was overruled. I'll see if Antifreezete can really wire this field.
7) 7,8,9
Would love to cover Charm the Giant and Ballados Thunder here, but can't. I don't care for Maxxi ARte, but one of my partners insist on including her. Honestly, it's reassuring knowing you have these two covered (Nakatani/Frankel and Espinoza/Gallagher)in a turf stakes.
8) 11
Highly Gallant can return to form and win fairly easy. Am worried about several in here, including the 6,7,12 and 14. But...let's roll.

3x3x4x2x3x1 = 226 x $2 = $452
Good luck everyone!

OK, my gut only told me one horse that I played in the contest and that was Alec in the last race. Lets see if my gut works well today.
