Default Best TV shows

Well, I just updated my list again after watching several shows on DVD, obviously I like fantasy/horror/drama genres as my list shows...I say these are the "best" because they create characters that I love, address important moral and philosophical issues and entertain the hell out of me. I know there are folks who will disagree with every one of these...I'm simply listing them cause I greatly enjoyed them and feel others may also!
1) Buffy the Vampire Slayer (7 years, WB & UPN)
2) Angel (5 years, WB)
3) Dead Like Me (2 yrs, ShowTime)
4) Forever Knight (3 years, CBS, syndication, USA)
5) Firefly (part season, Fox)
6) Charmed (8 seasons, CW)
7) Dark Angel (2 seasons, Fox)
8) La Femme Nikita (5 seasons, USA)
9) Veronica Mars (3 seasons...current, CW)
10) The Highlander (6 seasons, syndication)

The interesting thing with this thread is the diversity of taste that is represented...bottom line is that if you enjoy a show, that's all that is important.
I just finished watching Forever Knight....as you can tell by my list, I loved it! I saw a few episodes in the early 90's when it was on CBS latenight but it is so much better watching the DVD's, the plots are sometimes a bit loose, some continuity problems but those are over-shadowed by the rich characters and the darkness of the show...not for everyone, some episodes are disturbing but they are thought-provoking. The main character (Nick Knight) is only my third favorite character, normally that would be a problem but not in this case...Nigel Bennett is supurb as the dark master, Lacroix and Deborah Duchene absolutely stole my heart as Janette. If I have any complaints, aside from the somewhat unsatisfying ending, it would be that Janette is only in one episode in season three....if that character was actually real, I would volunteer to be her slave, I think she is one of the best fictional characters ever to appear on TV. The flashbacks make the show and it is unique in that it is primarily a "cop show" aside from the vampire element!

Here is one where people will have mixed feelings about, I love it and so does most my family, but one of my best friends thinks its terrible and so does his family.

Everybody Loves Raymond

I think it is brilliant!

ok, but please tell me that Seinfeld had the ability to do that for you, cause that might be the best of all time.

Again, the diversity of opinion...I never really cared for that show (Seinfeld), I do like Everybody Loves Raymond. Comedy shows just don't do it for me, I love comedy but prefer it in the context of storytelling. When I turn off the TV and spend several hours thinking about an episode of a show, debating the moral complexities, allowing my mind to wander into the dark and back to the light...then I feel I've watched something worthwhile. I just watched the next to last episode of Forever Knight and now I wonder, what would have been my decision if faced with the choice Lacroix had almost 2000 years ago? Would I have killed my own daughter or....???

1. Gilmore Girls
2. Boston Legal
3. Buffy
4. Angel
5. Veronica Mars
6. Friends
7. The Cosby Show
8. Charmed
9. Brothers and Sisters
10. Dark Angel

My personal top 10. Sorry Somer, but Buffy is #3 for me, but it and Angel did make my list! Gilmore Girls and Boston Legal are the only tv shows that I have ALL the seasons on DVD and watch them over and over. Boston Legal never gets tiresome.

Hey, Buffy, Angel, VM, Dark Angel, Charmed...half my list! Have you ever seen Forever Knight....if not you should try it! It really is disturbing and I like that! Vastly underrated show...sure, it's not Joss and suffers in comparison but still a wonderful show!

I will have to look for that one. What is it about?

P.S. I put that Joss song on my page too!

I LOVE Veronica Mars right now.

VM will probably be cancelled after this year, they didn't order an entire season of episodes as is...shame cause it is far and away the best show on TV right now imo! Ms Bell and her "father" along with Logan are fantastic characters!
Forever Knight...well, it was on TV starting in 92 I think, so it predates Buffy and Angel. It's a story about Nick Knight, a homicide detective in Toronto and most plots have human bad guys like a typical cop show. Knight is however an 800 year old vampire trying to become human and atone for his past. His "father" is Lacroix, a general of Pompeii who was "brought across" about 24AD by his daughter Dalia. Nick has a "sister" named Janette who runs a local nightclub, she is slightly older than Nick (perhaps 900+). It is a fantastic mythology...the characters (Janette, Lacroix and Nick along with Nat...Nick's human girlfriend and several others) are wonderful and their relationships very complex. They cover a lot of issues, some very dark! In this world, vampires can fly and have some hypnotic powers, they reflect in mirrors...otherwise close to Angel/Buffy. There are good and bad vampires, very few episodes involve killing bad ones. I love Janette...truly a wonderful character as is Lacroix!

I prefer fantasy to sci-fi usually, I loved Star Trek in it's day and reincarnations and Firefly of course (but Firefly was a space western really with no aliens). I want to catch up with Battlestar sometime too!
