![]() I think it's one of the true constants of racing, you'll always have plenty of dumb money around. you just have to know where to look.

![]() I've been 'churning' at BrisBet so that I can watch the big races from the Easter Carnival in Australia Friday night. I have to bet $100 within the last 30 days to get it, and I've been too busy to bet regularly. So I make $5 show bets on horses I feel are sure to hit the board. Today at SA I've gotten some lovely show payoffs when even money favorites have finished off the board. Whoa! just got a $5 show price for a horse I loved. (She got just got nailed at the wire.)

for example the only race I hit last Saturday was the Dubai World Cup Had the trifecta cold. So did everyone else. Knew Discreet Cat wasn't going to pick his feet up. like my uncle always used to say "you can beat a race but you can't beat the races." I like trying though. I like the action I also have an account with BrisBET. I seldom have money in it. I deposit funds via personal check. I bet I lose I quit.

![]() The clearest proof of dumb money comes in each Kentucky Derby Future Pool. There are always a few horses that are going to run before the pool closes. And there is always some money bet on those horses BEFORE they run their races.
Watch next week when NoBiz, AGS, et al, will draw plenty of money before the Wood is even run. These same bettors could wait to bet until Sunday, and they'd have a ton more info on their horses, but nooooooo. --Dunbar EDIT: I had the wrong week, and therefore the wrong horses, in what I wrote above. It'll be the Ark Derby and the Blue Grass that are run during Future Pool 3, not the Wood. The horses that some clueless people will be betting on a few hours too early are Street Sense, Curlin, Hard Spun, Great Hunter, and more.

The majority of the dumb money has left this sport, moving on to other interests that do not require thought, such as slots, etc. We do still have one bountiful afternoon of it though--and that's Derby day. The only afternoon that the nation generally watches and throws money, in large amounts, into the wagering pools. And often, their betting is fueled by their alcohol consumption. So, to that end, have another mint julep on me. There's more where the last one came from. Fatten the pools for all of us here and elsewhere that having been watching all year. |

![]() Weekends at the Spa there is still a fair amount of "general public" money in the mutuel pools also.

![]() The Dery future pool is a great bet for the people that put it on. They get to hold your money for a long long time. The odds that your horse will even make the derby are bad enough ..winning it.. I know people have shown you can make money on the future pool but it doesn't even come close to the amount of risk involved.
ummm btw I had a hot $2 on Bluegrass Cat (can't remember what his odds were but I'm certain the place money was almost as good with half the risk) They need to allow you to bet place and show in the future pool. What could it hurt?

Then other people bet on him outside of SoCal which is even more foolish. I thought that after the BCC people would stop doing that, but then you look at all the money people foolishly bet on him in Dubai and you have to scratch your head. Lava Man is a great horse for any capper that understands his strengths and limitations. Why more people can't figure that out is beyond me. |

![]() The Derby Future Pool itself is not a bad bet. I was talking about the people who put down money early in the pool on horses that are going to race before the pool closes. The fact that thousands are bet into the pool under those conditions suggests that the Future Pool can be a good bet for a more rational capper.
At least 6 horses from Pool 3 will be racing while the Pool is in progress. How many thousands will be bet on Street Sense, Great Hunter, Hard Spun, and Curlin before those horses race? That kind of money helps make the Future Pools attractive. --Dunbar
