Default More Brits going to Hong Kong (and the USA)

by David Carr
.

DERBY seventh Kid Mambo has been sold for a ‘significant' sum and is to leave Terry Mills's yard to continue his racing career in the far east.

The colt, who finished third in the Lingfield Derby Trial and was then beaten just over ten lengths behind Authorized at Epsom, had his last run in owner Jeff Daniels' colours when fourth in the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot.

“He has been sold to race for an owner in Hong Kong and he's currently in quarantine,” Mills's assistant Richard Ryan said on Monday.

“It's very sad to see him go - it always is when you lose a smart horse - and there was probably a bit more to come from him.

“He's a big, strapping, strong horse and he is out of a half-sister to Selkirk who improved with age.

“He was very tough and genuine and a pleasure to train. He was very progressive at two and he carried that forward this year. “It's very sad but it is a business. The owner has a number of horses with us and he hasto rationalise when a nice profit is available - he went for a significant sum.”

Also leaving for Hong Kong is St Philip, who finished third in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot for trainer Ralph Beckett. He is set to become a stablemate of Hong Kong sprint star Absolute Champion in the yard of David Hall.

Last year's Lingfield Derby Trial winner Linda's Lad, ridden by Frankie Dettori when finishing ninth behind Sir Percy in the Derby, has left Andre Fabre for the USA.

Owner Sean Mulryan's racing manager Herve Barjot said: “He has gone to Eddie Kenneally in Keeneland.

“We think there are a lot of good races for him over there, especially over a mile and a half on turf. He has been there for about two months and we hope he will be ready to run in September.”

********

Watch out for St Philip, MMSC. He is the sort of horse i think you will like (he sometimes has a mind of his own)

Yea!!! Great news!

I've checked import schedule, new import allocation of ratings, former names (just incase) and pp import performance and profile but nothing yet... goess they do it after they clear quarantine and it IS a little slow there now. I mean, the pool was just re-opened two days ago!

(A little concerned... Bullish is usually the first one in and he's not on either list. Hmmmm.....)

Hope these boys do better than poor little Puerto Rico.

edit - Do you know who the trainers are?

Don't know about kidmambo, but it says St Philip will be trained by David Hall. Is he good? I don't know much about racing over there.

Yeah he's good..... one of the more low-key types... ended the season in 7th (HK 37 mill).

Absolute Champion was his big horse this past season and had some nice surprises like Beethoven.

Nice choice.

If you see any go to Ng, he's like the king of the (physically) troubled.

O'Sullivan is my favorite..... kinda Mandella-esque. Fownes, Size, Ferraris and my poor Mr. Dennis Yip are really good too.

Hall won a little race called the Melbourne Cup with Makybe Diva right before he came to Hong Kong.

Miss having him here though...although his brother Lance is running the stable alright in his absence!

Keepem's a pretty talented horse, hope he does well over there. I hate losing horses overseas though. We have a really talented horse called Align To Infinity, if he wins on Saturday he's on his way to HK too.

Thanks for the heads up..... I had never heard of Keepem.

Keep me up to date on Align to Infinity so I can keep track of him in HK. Not much to look at right now except for who is swimming but when and if he goes over there i can tell you what is new rating is and who trains him.

(... and if he likes the pool or not).

O'Sullivan is a saint. Best Gift was fortunate to have him as his trainer. Others would have destroyed him (cough cough Tony Cruz).

No, they don't always change them. I'd say more often than not they don't.
