Default 'ATR' Today: Harvey Pack

The legendary Harvey Pack will be my guest from 4:15-5:00 this afternoon on the "At the Races". Yesterday's opener from Saratoga was a great deal of fun, despite the weather, and having Harvey today should be entertaining.

There isn't a horseplayer on the East Coast that didn't spend the 70'-90's listening to or watching Pack, and it's a real pleasure for me to have the opportunity to bring him to you... ALSO.. Dr. Allday on Rags' status; Jon White on Del Mar's opening week; Toga Opener Capping... more..

Hope you'll join me:

Harvey is the best - love the job he does at the Toga Handicapping Sessions.

Must-listen radio!

When I managed a Nevada racebook in the late 80's, early 90's, I always cranked up the sound when Harvey Pack was doing his handicapping show prior to the Saratoga card. I tried to get the "west coasters" to appreciate Harvey's insight and humor. That was when Saratoga was "Thoroughly Thoroughbred". I still remember the jingle they used to play on the simulcast signal.

During the 70's and early 80's here in NY when simulcasting was not even in the fetus stage and all the otb parlors had was a tv screen with the letters of the horses(they went by letters first) you could listen to WCBS radio and at 12 and 42 minutes past the hour when they did sports you would get the actual stretch call from the track. But i always chose to listen to WNBC at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour to hear Harvey do a recreation of the entire race.He did a great job.A true horseracing fan.By the way yesterday morning i'm on Springfield Blvd crossing over Hempstead turnpike and there i see a large horse transport truck with an advertisement on the entire side for ATRAB.Made my day.
