Don't really want to compare what is going on to a war but where I live, is out of control. 500k lost power yesterday with 80-100 year old trees UPROOTED. I am at a friend's house right now getting some air conditioning, some power and away from the chaos. I will be off and on for the next 6-7 days, which is when the power is expected on. Some crazy thing called a micro-burst, tore up houses/cars/people.

i'm at a coffee shop across the street from my building. 2 days without power now and don't know when its coming back on. some promising signs in that almost every building and business around me now has power back, of course we seem to be the last building for what ever reason. looks like I'll be drinking a lot of coffee and hanging out here for awhile.
what a mess, mini hurricane.

It was ****ing nuts. Still is. They are telling me 6 days until I get power and they are getting utility people help from Texas, Penn, and Oklahoma.

A microburst is a serious downdraft caused by a thunderstorm, will bring down commerical airliners if they are big enough. Nasty nasty little weather happening.

I was at Trackside yesterday when the power went out, it was comical, matter of fact at Trackside during the whole thing. It clears up and 10 minutes later they are running the 7th race at Arlington, I couldn't believe it. Meanwhile, no power at Trackside and I had a voucher stuck in the machine. RIGHT WHEN I GOT THERE, put $100 into machine and POWER GOES OUT. Unreal luck going right now. Get the voucher and high tail over to Arlington when the power goes on for like 10 minutes, get smoked in two races and then start the 3 mile, 2 hour trek (IN A CAR) to get back to Mount Prospect.

Nasty stuff there! (I'm from Elk Grove) - glad you guys are okay, though, and didn't lose cars, etc.

Did you see the video from a high-rise, taken of the storm moving in over Chicago? Like a wall.

My sister teaches in Des Plaines 1st graders on there first day of school were totally freaked out, had them in the hallways with there heads down.
I am located 150 miles south west of Chicago we had 3 100+ year old trees go down in our yard corn was laid flat on the ground. Flat line winds are some scary stuff.

GO CUBS
