Ricardo's lead is 30-the first time it has been as high as that. Ricardo took advantage of Baze's injury and then his 15 day ban and by November 4th it was Ricardo ahead by 18-I think Baze got the gap down to around 12 but now it's 30 (in Ricardo's favour-the gap was more in the other direction before Ricardo moved from Brazil to Argentina)

Jorge Ricardo 9,987
Russell Baze 9,957

Interesting factoids and other information:
Quote:
On February 5, 2007 Ricardo surpassed Baze, 9591 to 9590. Later in 2007 statistics changed hands several times up till June 18, 2007 when Ricardo took the lead and keeps it to this day.
Dec 2, 2006
RUSSELL BAZE 9,531
JORGE RICARDO 9,504

Quote:
"It was only earlier this year that the prolific Baze climbed to second on the all-time list, finally getting his nose in front of Brazilian legend Jorge Ricardo, who currently has 9,504 winners to his name. Although precise statistics are impossible to come by, he has had at least 2,500 fewer rides than Baze, three years his senior, having ridden 39,068 by the end of the 2005-06 season in Brazil.

Ricardo, known as 'Ricardinho' at home, turned down a lucrative retained in Saudi Arabia a couple of years ago to devote himself to overhauling Pincay, only to be denied by Baze?s remorseless progress." Quote from the RacingPost UK from very early Dec 2006
Quote:
LEADING RIDERS OF ALL TIME 9/3/2004

Laffit Pincay Jnr---9,530 wins
Jorge Ricardo--9,000+ wins
Willie Shoemaker--8,833 wins
Pat Day---8,612 wins
Russel Baze--8,503 wins

Michael Wrona noted last night after he won the last race at Golden Gate Fields that Russell Baze lead the nation in wins by a jockey in 2007 with 399 wins - this is the 9th time Russell has done that - Congrats to Mr. Baze!

Ricardo boots home five winners to reach 10,000

Brazilian jockey Jorge Ricardo became the first jockey in history to win 10,000 races when he booted home five winners from seven mounts on Wednesday’s 12-race card at Hipodromo San Isidro in Buenos Aires.

The 46-year-old Ricardo reached the milestone victory when guiding Stud Roseur’s three-year-old filly Membresia to a come-from-behind half-length victory in Wednesday’s 11th race.

DRF.....

http://drf.com/news/article/91916.html

Excerpt.....

Baze came up with an idea that will make the milestone even more special. The two tracks will donate a total of $10,000 in Baze's name to two racetrack charities, the Racetrack Chaplaincy and the Winners Foundation.

"They asked me what I wanted, but I don't need anything," Baze said. "They wanted to get me a computer, but I was already getting one. The idea was brought up about making a donation to charity, and I really liked that.

"The Racetrack Chaplaincy is very special to me, and the Winners Foundation does very good work in an outreach to people here."
