Default 1/13: Santa Anita ($160k C/O)

Saturday was a day that tested resolve as a horseplayer. Never one interested in accepting short prices in selections, bombs flew at the Fair Grounds and Santa Anita all day and I caught nearly none of them. The stakes string at New Orleans, which had been heavily disected all week on 'At the Races', ended up a stunning series of monster prices until two logicals reset some order in the Tiffany Lass and LeComte.

At Santa Anita, the three year old stake almost could not help itself from being formful, but the San Pasqual and San Fernando produced outlandish winners that produced a huge carryover of $160,000 into Sunday. While El Gato Malo proved out handsomely in the in the San Rafael, setting a track record in the process, Zappa, the longest shot on the Pasqual board at 13-1, and Air Commander, 52-1 and the 2nd longest tab in the Fernando, set off mutuel explosions.

At NOLA, French Beret (11-1-Bradley), Silver Lord (14-1-Louisiana) and Danceroftherealm (9-1-Leggio) triggered a $6,227 Pick 3; helped the all-stakes P4 come back at $10.4k; gave one winner a $25k P5 hit and left the P6 as a carryover. Steve Asmussen swept the soph features as Jim Graham gave Jolie the Cat ($10.40) a heady front-end trip in the Tiff, and Shaun Bridgmohan booted Z Fortune ($12.00) home in the LeComte.

Let's try to offset some of yesterday's drubbing with the 2nd big stakes card at Arcadia..

Thanks Steve. Absolutely zero feel for the Aqueduct card today, so think I will move west... Appreciate the input.

I like LOOKS GREAT in the last race.Might foul though. So,would also use Army Officer,Ringmaster, and Golada King.Don't like Army Officer, but I guess I would have to include.Street just can't finish.Knoblock lugs in too much at the exact wrong time.

Love the 7 horse in race 1.
Gilchrist went back and reclaimed him for $18 more than he lost him for previously. Plus, the Mike Smith "off" angle never fails.
Looks like he can sit off the speed and power home.

In the 8th at SA, #12 On The Virg trained by Pletcher will go to the front and not look back. Word is Pletcher believes this horse is a runner. At 8-1, I'll play!!

Talamo didn't give him the best ride. He's a bet back next time.

Taking a shot with the 6 and 9 in race 2.

No one likes Alonzo in the 8th? I mean I know I'm just going on family history...but if you just look at the sprint debut as a prep race.. I think he'll be dangerous at this distance.

I love Alonzo, but it's not an easy race.I guess it's more realistic to come 3rd today, and win next time. Then win various stakes.

On a separate note if the #1 wins the finale at Aqueduct, I may be jumping out a window...

Decided to pass on significant play, mainly because of 7th race which I could not get any feel at all in as well as last where I liked the #1 at a price, but was tough after that. Only proposed play was a $1 ticket 1 / ALL / 1,2 / 1.

$16 ticket with willpay at half of $33K... Of course I passed. This one would put me over the edge...

Decided against playing Zenyatta vertically, so will single her in the pick 3 races 8-10.

8- 2,3,4,5,9,10
9- 2
10- 1,3,7,9

This leaves me with 7 dollars in my account, which will go to a straight exactor over R i Diane if the will pays say its worth it.(Knowing myself, I will end up putting it on Bejarano in another race) This drought that I'm in must end, it feels like I work all week for nothing. Im at the bottom of the betting roller coaster.

Best of luck to everyone playing this evening!!

Heathersdaddysbaby jumped off the page at me this morning.. (despite Chantal..)

O.K.,I'm live with Alonzo for a Heathersdaddy/Alonzo double.Don't think he will win 1st time around 2 turns, but hate for him to win without having him.....oooooooo...he just opened as the favorite...hmmmm...I think he will need another start, but lets bring him in.

Suggest Shirreffs fans listen to his 'ATR' visit Friday.. First time on and was pleased to get him. Talked extensively about this race...

Starts at 4:15 (Hour One)..

Hooves; Spydee; PMac..

Thx.. Needed it after dropping $280 yesterday, which would have been $400 if not for Jolie the Cat.. As J.J. used to say, if I get beat up bad one day, look out the next day..

Six horses between 9-2 & 6-1 in this curious 8th.. Not a single result imaginable would shock me here.
