Majerus shouldn't be in trouble for this. He's a HIRED employee and he has the right to feel however he wants to. In my opinion, if the bishop had said that he wanted the university to fire him because he's not right for the university, that would be different. But to be upset with him for expressing his personal views is wrong. It was a personal view, not the view of the university.

why, sure he should. he should be fired. just like imus, just like jacobsen should be. it's the american way these days.







no, seriously. the guy works for them, but he wasn't on the clock. it's ridiculous that no one has any personal time any more-you always have to worry, especially if you're a high profile person.

i do think it's funny that burke is suggesting that since majerus is a basketball coach, he's somehow now a church leader. no, he's a coach. i doubt anyone goes to their coach for theology lessons.

While he can say what he wants and believe what he wants, if the University wants to do something to him for it they have every right. It's the same as a teacher who recently got fired at a Catholic school because they found out she had an abortion.

This University, or school in the case of the teacher pays the bills, and if they want to take action they can do so.


Majerus is going to have a heart attack within the next 2 years, so I think they should just let him be.

He is representing the UNIVERSITY which happens to be a Catholic University. If they feel like he makes their University look bad, then why can't they do something to him?

Hoss, lets just imagine that someone works for you. Lets say that someone went out on record saying he is against certain things that were high beliefs of yours. Would that piss you off a little seeing as how your putting food on his table?

Irish, it doesn't work that way in the real world. I'm just as catholic as you are, but this is a clear case of hypocrisy. How many employers really care about their employees stance on abortion?

Ok, I see what you are saying, but the only one who can decide what is done about it is the University, and it is their right to do whatever they please.

If the team is doing sh*tty, they can kill two birds with one stone.

They won't fire him, and I don't think any action will be taken. I don't think any action should be taken either, but it is not up to me nor anyone else.


Jacobson got a week without pay, nothing should be done to this chunk. I'm just a white male, who happens to be catholic as well trying to get by all the double standards that are held in America today.

They should have probably asked him his views BEFORE they hired him. If they would have a problem with his beliefs, the time to find that out is beforehand. Now, if they had come to him and said something like "it's your right to believe how you want to but publicly, we don't ever want you to express views opposite of ours", that would be different. But short of that, I don't think that the university would have any legal legs to stand on as far as any kind of reprimand for his comments. In fact, I am thinking that if they acted at all, they would be the ones facing legal action.

I agree with that, that is why I don't think anything should be done to Majerus.

Jacobson did not express a belief however, she just threw out some F bombs but I really don't care as much as most of you think, I just wanted to start a topic and it turned out to be a 5 page topic.

Hey ND,why don't you tell us what you think Christ would do to him(for being for abortion rights.)Would he fire him,because his group is paying the bills? Is that the way he would do it? I don't think so,and so why would you want something representing Christ to do something Christ wouldn't do? If he wanted to change his mind,he wouldn't fire him.He would tell him a story.Give him a lesson.Try to make him see the error without punishing him.Firing him would be in line with the actions of a much later religious prophet.....A butcher.....
