I've always though that if Stewart Elliot would have geared Smarty Jones down in the Preakness and cruised home by 5 lengths, he would have probably won the Belmont.

The reason I think that Big Brown will win the Belmont is because he wasn't even close to being all out in the Preakness and the race probably didn't take that much out of him. He should be able to come back in 3 weeks and win.
This is nonsense. SJ would have problems getting 12f no matter what. He simply was not a 12f horse. He had too many problems settling whenever he ran.

Throw in Prado riding Birdstone and you had the recipe for an upset. Just like when Prado beat War Emblem with Sarava. I am beginning to see a pattern here. We will see if Spark Candle can rattle Kent. Wouldn't be the first time. What will that make 3x Prado took down a potential triple crown. No coincidence there.

Prado wasn't the reason for Birdstone's upset.

Wasn't War Emblem somewhere in the vicinity of last?

Horses win races.....jockeys lose them.

Dutrow was also asked if he was concerned that other riders in the Belmont would “gang up” on Big Brown. He was reminded that some people accused riders of doing that to Smarty Jones when he was defeated by Birdstone in the 2004 Belmont Stakes.

“I don’t believe anyone would do something like that,” he said. “If they did, they might get assassinated after the race. I can’t imagine they would do that."
he is turning into a joke..... too much white stuff, and way too much partying.

Did Bailey ride bad in the Belmont by
whipping Eddington to death so early?
I guess the horse needed a little waking up.

Bailey absolutley used that horse.
He was fried and had no chance.

Here is the replay.

Remember Bailey on Eddington...that subtle pressure just took enough out of him in the stretch for Birdstone to run on by.

This is just my opinion but had Bailey ridden SJ that day and not Stu Elliot. I don't think he would have panicked and Smarty Jones would be a TC winner today. He didn't need to inject him into the race so early, when he probably should have been sitting 3rd behind the speed.

And then he whips the horse when he is fried.
I guess he was worried about the superfecta.

no, go for it.... i will listen, i can back off... i guess single on back end of a pick 4 is safer, could actually win more, and lose less

I recommend following in Dutrow's footsteps - that Casino Drive win money would be better spent on a hooker. . .
