Finding info is like pulling teeth. I guess horses take a back seat in LV. You'll have to call them (or get luckier on a net search than I did)

Since I'm not entering, I'm not sure of the details other than the $400 entry fee. I remember that top prize last year was in the $80K range.

saw this and happened to have the brochure in a stack on the desk - quick summary -

Email: contest@coastcasinos.net
Info and Registration: 1-888-566-7223, local (702) 365-7420

July 24 - 26
Top 10 winners qualify for the 2009 Coast Casinos Horseplayer World Series
Entry fee is $400
Each contestant will make fifteen individual WIN and PLACE [mythical] wagers per day on selected race tracks. Tracks will be designated. Contestants may play any races from the designated tracks.
More than one horse may be selected per race, but each wager must be $200 to WIN, $200 to Place. Each $200 win/$200 Place wager is a separate bet and will count as one of the fifteen wagers for the day.
Contest points will be based on full track odds for the first $20. The remainder of the wager will be credited at a maximum of 20/1 on the Win and 10/1 on the Place.
Point totals accumulate for three days
Entries will be limited to ten per person (no partners)
Contest tracks will be determined six weeks prior to the start of the contest [so they should be able to give you that info..]
The payout is 1-50 and is a percentage - they illustrate prize money based on 550 entrants - [1st $88k, 2nd $33K, 3rd $15k etc...] don't know if they're going to get that many in a mid-summer tournament, guess another thing to ask if you call..

An extra $19.5k in daily prizes paid by Coast Casinos to 1-3rd place finishers

GOOD LUCK!

Nice, I plan on playing in a few poker tourneys at the Excalibur this weekend. Going to Vegas for the first time, but mostly for business. Staying at the Luxor on Saturday night and the Palms Sunday and Monday nights.

Yeah, last minute notice on the trip, so I just booked a room in a hotel that looked cool. Now I've been reading reviews and it doesn't seem so great.

$35 buy-in at 9AM, 11AM, 1PM (or at least that's what they were the last 2 years). Get there an hour early to register. Most end up with 3-4 tables, except for 2 tables sometimes on weekdays for the early one and you want to get there early, as you do not want to be an alternate. They also pay a good number of places (2 per table).

Mandalay and Monte Carlo are $50 and that's what I'm going to try when I go at the end of Nov.... along with playing Excalibur once or twice.

Just got back two weeks ago...spent a week there...Didn't do a lot of gambling cuz it was the Mrs. and I, but we liked the Wynn and Mandalay from an overall casino satisfaction. Stayed at NYNY and it started off rocky, but quickly improved. We checked in at noon, went to our room, noticed it was a little warm in there but hey it's Vegas and it was 112 outside so we didn't pay much attention to it and hit the streets. The next time we came through the doors it was 4 a.m. and it was blazing in there. They had to change out the ac motor in our room and as they were doing so, there was a knock on our door and it was a bellman with the cart and the keys to our new room. We started with the 3rd level room and got bumped literally 5 levels. It was just over 1500 square feet.....next time though, we'll probably stay at the Venetian.

If you can get Wynn for a lower price than the Venetian (which you normally should), it's better... although Venetian's very good too. When I go, I normally stay 1 night on the north end, then the rest at NY on the south end. I know those 3rd level rooms at NY well. Tip for you... when you check in at NY, ask for a corner room (they'll put you in a room with 2 different views, one of MGM, other of north or south strip).
