Volleyball is decent, but plan on paying huge bucks for Club ball, and plan on spending enormous amounts of time on it in College; very rigorous training, although not as bad as swimming.
Basketball... forget it. A girl I taught in 1987 got a full ride to UT the year after they won the National championship. I dont think she would get a Division I offer in today's world.

Women's hockey gives on average the largest amount of scholarship money at
$20,500 for women. So dads, move to the great white North and get your girl on the ice. But dont count on the SEC to pay your way.

On topic. Phelps looked slightly human in the Butterfly. He actually looked winded.

So do the americans have to swim with a 7 lb disadvantage given how far ahead they are in the 4 X 200 meter relay.....it almost seems unfair somehow.

What the hell did the Chinese do to this pool???

It seemed like everyone of our guys lengthened the lead.
For the first time the wonderful camera displays for the swimming
got screwed up. We got too far ahead.

It's indeed built for speed: 9 feet deep rather than 5 feet (less wash); it has two extra unused lanes on the outside (10 lanes rather than 8) = less wash; and it has gutters all around (less wash, the waves break into the gutters).

The other big deal is the swimsuit construction improvement (ultrasonic seams, pressure panels to maximize oxygen flow to major muscle groups)

These guys also do other things like train at altitude, have detailed nutritional glycogen-reloading plans (carb to protein ratios, intake timing after exercise, etc.)

Sports medicine - pretty cool stuff

I agree... its time they make swimming a pari-mutuel event. Eventhough Phelps would be 1-9 every race.

Pretty funny when the super-tiny one ran like the wind. She looks 10 years old (with attitude AND TALKIN' TRASH.).....BTW, The Venezuelan Womans Volleyball team played on the NBC late night show, and I swear they got them dressed with about 90% they a-s-s hanging out. They were hardly wearing anything. It was amazing. I have no idea if they won or loss. Hopefully, they won, and can continue on.

If you hear what Phelps is eating for Breakfast everyday, it is insane, he eats close to 5,000 calories for Breakfast
