You are probably thinking of another Marshall defense. Probably '97's.
The team that year oblitered everyone. The defending national champions - Montana of Ohio State - were 14-0 and they hung a 49-6 score on them with like 10 minutes still to go in the national championship game. Some of their games were on tv here.
