Borel Steals Race / Headlines credit: horse, mud, rail bias
Borel won that race with a grade 3 animal.
Borel did something unorthodox - He took his horse way back, timed the pace, and then charged up the rail. Everyone else ran much more as a pack, mostly riding a little too fast early and decelerating late as they tired. His ride gave him a clear advantage in two ways: BEST SETUP , MINIMAL GROUND LOSS Not enough fanfare in the major racing media to Borel for what it was - One of the all time greatest and most influential rides in the history of the Kentucky Derby. |
