He's the 4th Euro Breeders Cup winner from last year to return (the previous 3, Muhannak, Goldikova and Donativum have all been beaten and Ravens Pass has been retired). He has a 7 pound penalty against some solid opposition.

CIMA TRIUMPHS IN BRIGADIER

By Tom Peacock, PA Sport

Cima De Triomphe (4-1) just prevailed from Conduit in a desperately tight finish to the Blue Square Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown.

Making his seasonal return, St Leger and Breeders' Cup hero Conduit did virtually everything right, steadily picking up passing the three furlong marker and fighting off the challenge of 15-8 favourite Pipedreamer, who looked all over the winner at one stage before seemingly running out of gas and not making the frame.

All the while, however, Christophe Lemaire was getting his Luca Cumani-trained four-year-old into top gear and the pair got there right on the line to score by a nose in receipt of 7lb from the runner-up.

Stotsfold was a further length back in third.

Conduit ran better than I expected him to over a trip short of his best.

I love Conduit... nice to see this boy get a win though.

(See I don't always root for Godolphin).

Full results...

I had a lot of faith in conduit today and backed accordingly! He will be much better this year than last year and always thought he could be competitive over 10. My betting has been terribly frustrating recently!

I was very, very keen on Pipedreamer. He stopped like he had been shot though. Perhaps he does need a return to a mile. The yard were very confident today, and to see him run like that will have many people scartching their heads in Newmarket tonight.

Haven't seen the race yet but he should defo be tried over a mile. The owners do have Virtual but they are known to race their own.

Yes, I'm pretty sure he's running. Michael Stoute is also considering a pacemaker to help him.

Can't see past Sea The Stars and Archipenko to be honest. This will ulimately be the acid test for Sea The Stars. Is he as goos as we all think? Can he do it against the older horses? Or are the three year old crop not anything special?

Agree on Sea the Stars, Archi is out.

"Archipenko has a swollen fetlock joint and we’ve really had no option. This is even more aggravating because his preparation for the Eclipse has been great. He was doing excellent work and would have had a winning chance." - MdK

Sea the Stars / Cima de Triomphe / Conduit or Rip

That's certainly made Sea The Stars' job much more easy (if a Gr1 race can be easy). The likes of Conduit are beatable and have question marks, but a horse like Archipenko had nothing to prove and we all knew he is very good. Conduit still has to prove he's out of the top drawer in my opinion. I know he won the BC turf, but to me he's a stayer, not a ten furlong horse. I think Sea The Stars (Gr1 winner over a mile) will have too much toe for him, and on fast ground (it's been baking hot here all week), that is something else that is very much in Sea The Stars' favour.

should be some race. Ive layed Sea The Stars as I thought he was way too short. He should win, but hes not the certainty many people think. I think Conduit will run him really really close.. Cima will round out the top 3

He's just too good.

He proved he had plenty of speed in the Guineas, showed he stayed a mile and a half in the derby and today he showed his class and guts when fighting right up to the line.

According to Kinane he wasn't doing a tap in front, and won pretty easily. He isn't the sort of horse that will win by open lengths, he just does enough.

Kinane said that they went very fast today, but it still wasn't fast enough for this horse

The opportunities are endless for this horse. He'd be more than capable of winning over a mile again, and a mile and a half. I'd love to see him run in the BC Mile or even the Classic.

Apparently, you haven't watched American racing this year. This horse could win the Mile then come back a couple of hours later and beat our pathetic Classic horses. You could probably squeeze the Turf in there too.

I believe it was taken before he fainted today (not kidding). How sweet.
