I was at a dinner about four months ago where someone pretty powerful in the industry had a two hour speech about what will change the game, and this (what we are seeing at woodbine) was his big idea.

The audience didn't seem to agree too much, but maybe so...

well changing the game does seem like a bit of a stretch.

imagine how it would help you to find your horse in a big field like the derby?

I didn't like it. Interesting but confusing on the small screen on Xpressbet (woodbine isn't on NYCOTB channel for some reason- only in the otb's.)

Love Woodbines grounds, love their racing, love their innovation, I love everything about Woodbine. The numbers seemed to be a little behind the horses, maybe they can tweek that a little. It gave me the feel of a video game, maybe that will get young people more interested in the game?

For those of us who haven't watched a race at Woodbine...what the heck are we talking about?

do you have access to a replay? if so just watch any race from last night.

I don't know all the details but the gist of it is that they put a small transmitter chip on each horse or jockey. The signal from this chip makes it possible to get realtime position information for each horse.

What they have done is while the race is running at the bottom of the screen is an overhead view of the race and it shows the position of each horse on the track relative to each other. Its displayed just as a small colored squares but you can watch these squares and see who is moving and how wide they are. it has the look and feel of watching a video game.

something new, don't know yet how much it actually adds but i think its neat to watch.

hmmm, sounds cool. i wonder if the technology has been incorporated into the full charts ? in other words, giving the fractional times of each horse instead of just the lead horse.

I don't know but i sincerely hope so. That would probably be the biggest single benefit to this, having precise data for every horse as well as having not only a few points of call but every in between as well.

Much more to analzye.

at this point the charts for woodbine on equibase are the same as they've ever been.

well i think it would take them some time to assimilate this data. they won't be ready to plunk it in right away. don't know for sure what they plan to do.
i wonder if they'd even set up a different data scheme only for one track. doubt it. if it takes off then its another story.
