I used to think it was funny what Abrams did, but a funny thing started happening, the horses would usually run good with the very short layoffs, this horse did it last year at del mar. She is outlcassed in this spot but I cant blame the guy and actually like that he sends them out there.

You didn't think that an absolutely flawless trip aided in her win?

I thought she was far from impressive in a bad field.

Plus I had the 7 singled in my big pick 3 ticket and settled for the chalk leftovers.

Agreed. I think she would have finished somewhere between sixth and third in a race like the Diana. I suppose she gets a look since the BC will be in her backyard but she was far from impressive.

I thought Tyler who is riding better than I have ever seen him, give Gotta Have Her the trip of the race, yeah she had a nice trip, I did think she showed a turn of foot not often seen in this division other than from Forever Together and maybe Diamondrella. She's a much more exciting prosect than Dynaforce and she could be a price in the BC, tabbed for later.

The final 1/8th was run in 11 and change, that was not impressive for a 1 1/8th race?

Why exactly was her trip any better than any number of others? You could maybe argue that she was the only one in the field that could beat a poodle going 9F but that'd be something else.

She rode the fence the whole way, tipped out and rallied, wouldn't you consider that the ideal turf trip?

Personally I thought Patricia's Gem ran very well and is a very nice horse. In fact, I think she would have won the Clement Hirsch if Mandella had left her in there. PG put the pace pressers away before Gotta Have Her (who also had a nice trip) moved and then MF last moved them.

Between the amount of ground she saved and the fact that a gaping hole was open for her in upper stretch I thought things went her way.

The BC Filly/Mare could shape up to be one of the more interesting races BC weekend.

Forever Together
Diamondrella
Dynaforce
Rutherienne
Criticism
The Euro's

I'm not saying she is a sure win bet proposition but Magical Fantasy should be more than salty given that she may be no better than the 4th or 5th choice in the race. If she can reproduce that final 1/8th again, it would take a very good horse to beat her.

Trip aside, you are a numbers guy. Then why ignore a sub 12 sec final 1/8th... isn't that represenative of a good horse?

I would be very concerned if they didn't go the final eighth of that race in less than 12 seconds.

Delmar often favors speed horses on their turf course, the pace wasn't overly fast for that track, she closed into a slow pace and beat a decent field in my opinion. The final fractions for the race were 23.96 - 48.17 - 1:12.08 - 135.62 and in at 1:47.17. If anything those fractions should have favored Patricia's Gem.

To me she got no better than the 3rd best trip in the race, I don't understand why her performance is no better than Forever Together's or Diamondrella's from a time standpoint. Taking trip and competition out of the equation since these are subjective factors.

Well. There's the Donovan/Blewitt school of tripping that says that any time a horse is inside it gets a bad trip. Seriously, MF did get a very nice trip but she also ran when she got the chance. She passed 4 horses in the lane, that weren't really quitting, as she accelerated late. Visit, Gotta Have Her and Bel Air Sizzle all had a chance to run late as well and just didn't.

Which points to the seemingly fine effort turned in by Patricia's Gem. It terms of the way the race setup, I believe that PG got the best trip of all. Of course, she can't get 9F and this ultimately did her in.

The horse that I want back out of this race is Charming Legacy. The setup didn't favor the chasers and she finished much better than Tuscan Evening and Briecat.

In it's most simplistic terms - Turf racing is really just a 1/4 mile sprint - Pace is always a factor so we all agree on that point... BUT give me a horse that can produce a sub 24 - 23 and change last quarter on a non concrete type of turf course and a Jockey that can work out a trip, that horse is always going to be dangerous under any situation, you are more than likely going to win your share of races.
