Default Lethal Heat possibly running both days of Breeder's Cup

Got this update on Twitter, thought it was interesting and abmitious.

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...source=twitter

Barry Abrams plans an unprecedented first when the Oak Tree Racing Association hosts the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita on Nov. 6 and 7.

The 55-year-old trainer, noted for successfully running his horses at uncommonly close intervals, intends to start Lethal Heat in the $2 million Ladies’ Classic (gr. I) at 1 1/8 miles on Pro-Ride Friday, Nov. 6, and, if all goes well, run her again in the $1 million Turf Sprint at about 6 1/2 furlongs against males on Saturday, Nov. 7.

"I’m going to run Lethal Heat in the Ladies’ Classic on Friday and down the hill on Saturday," said Abrams, apparently not expecting Zenyatta to defend her crown in the Ladies’ Classic. "They do it in other countries. Lethal Heat ran twice last week and finished second both times, once against males in the California Cup Classic, and then against Zenyatta, and she’s a great horse.

Lethal Heat, a 4-year-old California-bred daughter of Unusual Heat, finished second to the undefeated champion mare Zenyatta at equal weights in the Lady’s Secret Stakes (gr. I) on Saturday. Overall, Lethal Heat has a 6-2-5 record from 16 career starts, with earnings of $655,988 for owners Barry Abrams, Madeline Auerbach or Ron McCauley.

It the races were reversed, I might not think it was so crazy. I really hope she has some success though and slap all the spaced race people in the face.

Many moons ago at Trinity Meadows there was a trainer named Weaver (I think?) who used to do this. He did it with a stakes caliber horse and the horse won both races. I can't say I've seen it done ever since save Golden Man, so perhaps this will give Rick Dutrow something extra to shoot at.

And Golden Man finished third and then second in grade three races at 8.5f.

Back in the day, races were run in heats. They'd run, then have about and hour and run again. Then they would run a tie breaker if need be another hour later. Oh, and each heat was often as long as 4 miles.

I realize that in today's game, things like this are not done. But that doesn't mean that they can't be done and I don't think it makes the guy an idiot. He just thinks different. If Rachel had still been with her previous owner, we wouldn't have seen her do the magnificent things she's done. If Zenyatta was owned by Lukas, we would have seen her do differnent things. Different people have different ideas. I've seen two 2yos win the grade one Nunthorpe Stakes in Europe against older males. The first one I saw do it was Lyric Fantasy, a 2yo filly. The second one was Kingsgate Native, who was a maiden at the time. I don't want to hear about how it's grass racing and it's different. If any trainer here was to take a 2yo filly or a 2yo maiden and put them into the BC Turf Sprint, he'd be called an idiot.

I really hate when I read silly statements like this. You do know that horses that don't run on back to back days sometimes snap legs too right? You do know that Golden Man didn't snap his leg right?

I don't think she'll snap her leg, I'm just guessing that Lethal Heat might be tired.

But maybe she will show us what she is made of and run in the money in both races.

Shes solid, but I highly doubt she runs in the $ in either race.
