Just 6 days ago:
http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...-still-retired "Jerry Moss, who owns Zenyatta with his wife, Ann, reiterated that “nothing has changed” regarding Zenyatta as he watched Shirreffs saddle Neko Bay shortly before the San Pasqual Handicap (gr. II) at Santa Anita Jan. 9." Glad they changed their minds...(at least for this week.) |

If they meet before the fall, it is going to be in the La Troienne on the Oaks card.

I sort of understood why they played chicken in 2009. Go undefeated and retire the horse after the BC. NOW that is not the case. It makes me think that his wife is calling the shots and/or he's getting estrogen shots from a quack LA doctor. |

I have officially heard everything - on another forum someone said Zenyatta, not Holy Bull is the best horse Smith ever rode.

I'd say Cigar is the best horse Mike Smith has ever ridden

Well, I'd say Skip Away probably was.

He made a commitment to ride Behrens earlier in the year and couldn't get out of it.
Skip Away beat Cigar as a 3yo in the Jockey Club Gold Cup and passed on the BC a few weeks later because he wasn't nomiated. I believe the thinking was that Sonny Hine would again refuse to put up a fortune to supplament and make Skip Away elidigible to run ... but when the mighty Formal Gold and many others started falling ... Skip Away was like the last survivor from an insanely awesome group of older males. If not for a lot of key injuries ... I don't think Skip Away would have run in the Classic as a 4yo either. Going on memory though |
