Default Dish vs. DirecTV

I have been a DirecTV customer for 10+ years but finally told them gfy. The price of the NFL Sunday Ticket is getting so outlandish and their service blows. I am only days away from having both HRTV and TVG and I did make sure that the technician will show me how to use the mute button so I can watch both with a clear head.

Anyone prefer either strongly?

I'm still with Directv because of my addiction to the NFL package. Late last year HRTV was running a special 1 year for 49 bucks for their web streaming so I picked that up.

Hypothetically, if Direct TV offered HRTV would you still have made the change?

I have direct tv and the only issue I have is reguarding the outages during really bad storms. Otherwise I really have no complaints.

DishTV is getting Racetrack Television soon I think. There was an agreement and it is in limbo right now.

I am not 100% sure how much more per month it will cost but having the direct feed in home would be pretty awesome.

I have been with Dish for about 2 years now. Not one problem with them and I am enloying TVG and HRTV. Dish is far more superior than any cable company that I previously had.

I have both Direct and Dish, I added Dish when TVG got in the big contract dispute with CD and ultimately lost the signal for all CD tracks plus GP etc. Frustrating to be shut out of my Fairgrounds which is 30 mins away. So anyway....

I HATE, LOATHE, DESPISE, Dish's system. The DVR is ridiculously stupid, you have to go into all these menus to to record and change all the settings unlike what you are used to with Direct by just clicking the program and if I want to change something I can.

They are no less expensive than Direct plus you don't get any bonuses. I get alot of credits with Direct or bonus movies, and all I have to do is periodically call them to tell them I have Dish for 1 channel, HRTV, that they refuse to carry and they give me 10 to 15 dollars off for months at a time when it expires I just call them and they renew the discount.

Dish's HD package is more expensive for less channels than Direct. And they don't have true on Demand as Direct has, it's still in somewhat beta version but getting better all the time.

The only feature I do like is that the DVR gives you 2 hours instead of 1.5. Oh and the stupid standby mode that you can't shut off, you can disable it but there is nothing to set it to zero hours so it still comes on if left on the same channel for 8 hours which mine is as I only watch HRTV on Dish, well occasionally CNN,and then you can't back it up to watch the DVR. OH and that's another thing, with the package I have for HRTV, 48.15 per month I only get CNN no MSNBC or Fox, just again weird, you would get them all with Direct. Plus their customer service people sux.

I am not under any contracts with either of them and if I can ever get Direct to carry HRTV would instantly have it removed from my home.

Oh yeah and you might not get your locals, my friend has to use her antenna to get New Orleans stations again 30 minutes away but can't watch on Dish. The only thing that would get me to leave Direct is if COX cable came over here, but would be hesitant with the hurricanes as the cable goes out for weeks. Or if Verizon Fios came. And Dish goes out just as much if not more during rain.

But you will get both HRTV and TVG....

have had all - cable, direct, dish - since moving am currently with DISH, used to go out all the time because we had major trees but the new location has a perfectly clear shot of the sky and so far so good fingers crossed..

WHAT BOILS DOWN TO IS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS BIG TIME ANY OF THE THREE, think Time Warner cable was the worst because made the mistake of ordering a package off the net instead of with a "live" local operator - when went to change a few things on it was told they can't assist, you have to talk to their "net" department in India and you're transferred into oblivion...

anyway what have learned the past few years is go with what's cheapest between Direct and Dish, sign up for a special promo package on Dish and when it's about to expire call them up and try to cancel service and they'll extend, then just keep doing it - am on my third round of free HBO/Showtime etc. just call and say you want to cancel... they're all idiots, really...

I've had Dishnet for years. I really don't know what I would do without having both TVG and HRTV to enjoy year-round. While the system is not as user friendly as Direct TV for the price and programming options I have been quite satisfied. The nearest Simulcasting venue is an hour and a half away in Oklahoma so we watch both HRTV and TVG just about every day.

Although I don't have the pp's, I think what you were really asking was if people prefer HRTV over TVG or vice-versa. IMO HRTV keeps getting better while TVG has started to slide downward pretty quickly after the bet-fair purchase. If you aren't listening to the announcers I would go HRTV except for so-cal, then you need TVG.

Direct has "Trailer Park Boys" and that is worth the price.

I would pick HRTV over TVG any day.

We have had DISH for the past 12 years and have been very pleased with it. I like that we can put it on pause when we're away for the summer, and it only costs $10/month. Maybe DIRECT has the same option. I can't compare the two since we've only had DISH.
