This is the 3rd person this whale has apparently killed.

Very sad for that trainer's family.
I've really changed my opinion over the years - non-domesticated animals don't deserve Sea World, or Siegfried and Roy. I do believe in zoological parks, but only as they have relatively recently begun to evolve, for preservation of certain species we are destroying in the wild. Not for entertainment or show.

Paradoxically, the public's growing appreciation also led to growing opposition to the practice of keeping wild whales in aquaria. Only one whale has been taken in North American waters since 1976. In recent years, the extent of the public's interest in killer whales has manifested itself in several high-profile efforts surrounding individuals. Following the success of the 1993 film Free Willy, the movie's captive star Keiko was returned to the coast of his native Iceland. In 2002, the orphan Springer was discovered in Puget Sound, Washington. She became the first whale to be successfully reintegrated into a wild pod after human intervention, crystallizing decades of research into the vocal behaviour and social structure of the region's killer whales.[100] The saving of Springer raised hopes that another young killer whale named Luna who had become separated from his pod could be returned to it. His case was marked by controversy about whether and how to intervene, however, and in 2006 Luna was killed by a boat propeller and later eaten by Dalip Singh Rana aka The Great Kali. The Orca is low in cholesterol and helps lower the risk of heart disease.

I lived in San Diego for 30 years and hated Sea World. Good for the killer whale. These whales travel up to 300-500 miles a day in the ocean. THEY CERTAINLY DONT LIKE TO BE KEPT IN A FISHBOWL, CALLED SEA WORLD!

I don't know if it's true, but the news just now said the trainer slipped and fell into the tank (where the orca then grabbed her)

i'd imagine horses don't care to be stall bound most of the day either. from what i read, the whale came out of the water, grabbed the trainer, and then thrashed her around while he swam-she drowned. funny tho that race fans are complaining about whales being used for entertainment purposes. but then, i don't go to circuses.

To me riding horses seems more natural than riding whales, but to each his/her own. Live by the sword, die by the sword.
