Default NFL might change OT rules

I actually like this idea, less emphasis on field goals.

I like the sudden death format. I personally don't think that it needs to be changed. But if I had to tweak it,this would be my idea. There would be no kickoff. If you win the toss and want the ball then you have to start at your own 10 yard line. Basically you are trading field position for the chance to score first. It's still a slight advantage for the team with the ball, but now they have to go about 55-60 yards to try a long FG. But they are also in a tough spot if they should go 3 and out and or take a penalty somewhere in the sequance. Teams with strong defenses might even opt to start on defense trying to gain the field position if they should stop them. Then most likely 10-15 yards for them (after the punt) would put them in position for their own FG attempt.

This is dumb. I thought the complaint was that both teams don't get a fair shot and the coin toss blah blah blah. What's the big difference w/this? If both teams score, then the first team goes and scores to win, people could still bitch that the second team didn't get an equal shot. Either switch to the college rules or leave it alone.

I have never seen this mentioned before. Great idea.

Instead of a coin toss ... let a game of rock, paper, scissors decide who gets the ball first.

there is no reason at all why regular season games shouldn't just end in a tie after regulation. if no one scores in the one ot period, it ends in a tie anyway-so why bother? the game should end after four periods.
as for playoffs and the superbowl-if the game is sudden death, which it is, they should just continue where play ended in the fourth quarter. there should be no kickoff. this would keep teams from playing it safe towards the end of regulation. as for the sudden death rule, i have no problem with it. the team who scored at the end of regulation would win anyway-without the other team possibly getting a shot at the ball. if anything, just use the play clock. don't even bother with the 15 minute clock. play continues til there's a score.

Field goals or touchdowns no difference. In the playoffs I have no problem if each team has to get the ball once. Make them go for 2 as well.
