Post My Favorite Belmont

The 1986 edition featured Danzig Connection winning Woody Stephen's 5th consecutive Belmont trophy dating back to 1982. This feat will likely never be broken. Danzig Connection beat Johns Treasure and Ferdinand over the sloppy oval in the 118th running. In a highly competitive affair, Peter M. Brant's Mogambo and Odgen Phipps' Personal Flag also were involved in the 1 1/2 mile contest. Actually, a "Northern Baby" colt - Rampage went off as the post-time fav in the race.

Also that day, Creme Fraiche (previous year's victor) ran in the Jaipur Stakes. King's Swan and Ziggy's Boy sprinted in the Roseben Handicap, while Ogygian and Groovy "squared-off" in the Riva Ridge Stake.

All in all, a great day of racing !!!

hers was exciting, but it would be hard to top the affirmed/alydar edition. those two battled thru much of the race, an amazing effort by both horses. secretariats was a feat for sure-but seeing two horses go toe to toe like that was amazing.

Seeing as I was born in 1978, I wasn't at Belmont to see Affirmed and Alydar.

I wasn't there but my fave is 1998. TINY Nose stopped a triple crown.

My heart was pounding so hard on the backstretch for that one that I honestly thought I was gonna have a heart attack.
