Looking forward to the Gallant Bob Stakes this weekend. Gallant Bob was as game a sprinter as they come that was typically over-loaded as the highweight in every race he ran. He ran on the NY/MD/PA circuit in the mid-1970's.

I especially loved his battles with Bombay Duck. I believe that the 1st stakes race that I ever cashed on was Gallant Bob winning the Paumonok Hdcp at the Big A!!

Wow, Gallant Bob's record is even more impressive on paper than I remember.

I recall most of his competitors - Christopher R, Amerrico, Mac Corkle, Due Diligence, Our Hero, Talc, and Pompini (Arg).

Pompini (Arg), in fact, was one of my all-time favorite horses. An allowance sprinter that ran at Aqueduct and Belmont in the 1970's - he would typically start 20-25 lengths behind the field and then miraculously, he would "close from the clouds" in a 6 or 7 furlong race.

Thanks for posting !!!!

Terrific race. Another impressive effort by Bank Merger, but boy, Rule by Night ran too good to lose...
