Default Friday Nite Wood 5-25-12

Big sports night in the MaTH household. 6pm Little Matt All-star baseball tourney game. 8PM Rangers at Devils. Then The Wood at 10pm and it's pretty interesting card tonight. Hopefully the gangs around and makes some money tonight.
RACE 1
#6 I SENSE YOUR LUCK (2nd)-Captian Obvious horse trained be Mike Mitchell, has just missed in her last two running for 20k & 25k. A very likely single on many pick 5 tickets.
#1 ATTACK THE JACK(win $8.00)-Only making career start 5. Ran well in her first start over the Poly. Looks like the speed and could possibly take them all the way.

A couple of other thoughts
#2 SON DE AMERICA-I'll let her beat me here. I just don't understand her last race. She doesn't run bad on 4/12 running for 25k, then they protect he for 80k on the turf. Now she's dropped in for 16k. Gets a big upgrade to Rosario, but I'm not using.
#5 SEA OF DESIRE-For you Marty Jones lovers. Last seen as a 2 year beaking her Maiden for 28k. She showed speed that day. Coming back after a five month layoff, watch the board.

RACE 2
#3 MISS OOPS-She's stepping up another level after being claimed in her last two (both wins). Trounced the field last out in her first start at Hollywood. Earned a career best Beyer, is a bounce candidate, but really isn't running against much.
#5 LIL MISS MACKY(2nd)- I have to admit that I'm really not enamored her. She wins for 16k last out and now is dropping in for 12.5. But how do you toss anything Mitchell is putting out there these days?

RACE 3
#2 D'OBSESSION(win $9.00)-Back sprinting after not disgracing himself going 2 turns in a stake (where he was on the front end). I hoping the cutback helps him in career start number three (most in the field).
#4 SIZZLIN' JOE-Lost by less than two lengths in debut which happened to be a statebred stakes race. I'm guessing he will probably be a little closer to the pace today.

OTHER OPTIONS
#1 NIGHT BADGER-Ran well in debut versus open company, now makes career start number two against statebreds.
#3 MEL'S GAME-Mike Mitchell is winning at a 43% clip with horses making their 2nd career start. This one too ran versus open last out and is in against states this time.

RACE #4
#3 LUCKARACK(2nd)-Four year old gelding as been up and down the class ladder. Ran 4th in the G1 Malibu six lengths behind The Factor one race after winning for 40k here at Hollywood. Back in for 40k after not running well on the hill across town. Only concern is that he did much of his good running while he was in the barn of Doug O'Neill. He's now in the winless (0-17 for 2012) barn of Ted West, but he is training well.
#7 PRIVILAGED(scr)-Looks like he could be the speed of the race and end up all alone on the front end. Stepping up after winning at 32k last out.
#2 CLOSE TO THE EDGE(win $5.20)- This O'Neill five year old has run back to back 91 Beyers across town. Has showned speed in some prior starts, guessing that Raffie will try to stalk. Does show a bullet in preperation for this start where his price will be very chalky.

RACE 5
#6 HUKUCHI (ARG) (3rd)-Tossing last race where she was in for N/W1 40k across town and broke thru the gate. Back in for 25k where she was competitive on the hill. Hoping it translates to the Hollywood turf course. She should be on/near the lead at a fair price.
#1 MS. G.I. JANE(2nd)-She's coming in off a brief freshening after winning on the hill last month where she beat HUKUCHI by half a length. Rosario picks up mount and I think he'll have her forwardly placed breaking from the rail.
#3 FIFTH AVE (GB)-Might be the one coming late if the race comes apart. Making 2nd start after an almost ten month layoff. Placed in very ambious spots as a 3 year old, now making her second start at the much more reasonable 25k level.

OTHER OPTIONS
#9 FINALITY PHILLY -Horse has shown some flashes of ability. Hasn't been seen since August at Hastings. Trainer has raced three horses at the meet so far with two seconds and a third. Thinking this one could be live at a price and will try to use on a ticket somewhere.
#5 CHURCH AVENUE -Hard knocking claimer hasn't been seen since August of last year when she was claimed by Ron Ellis. Versitile runner could make some noise if ready. Watch the board for signs (as far as the late 4 goes). Horse is trying the sod for only the 2nd time and Ellis is 0/7 off the claim this year. Probably not using especially at a very unattractive price. But wouldn't be a total suprise.

RACE 6
#1 NATALIE'S ACADEMY(3rd)-has burned some money in her last two starts, but has the rail and has speed. Expecting Raffie to try and go all the way here.
#4 ALLSWELLONCEAGAIN-Looks like the other speed in the race. Dropping out of maiden special weights and trying the Poly for the first time. Also gets some weight here with the bug aboard. Working well for Bruce Headly who's off to a good start at the meet.
#6 DULCEMIA-Just missed at 24-1 in her debut. Tossing last race's debacle on the downhill turf course across town. She seems to be in a much more reasonable spot here. Trainer is 0/31 so far this year and is trying the Poly for the first time, but I'm guessing/hoping that's going to inflate her price even more (20-1 ML).
#8 SUDDEN SUNDAY- Mike Mitchell firster, honestly not sure if I'm using as of yet. But does warrent respect.

RACE 7
#3 ELANA MAR(2nd)- Four year old making only career start four. Last seen in Feb where she just missed in an Alw N/W 1 race. Working well for the comeback and it's nice to see that she's not in for the tag. Stalking/closer type should get a good set-up as there looks like there could be some pace.
#1 RUFFLED FEATHERS-I hoping that she gets a similar setup her like she got on 1/19 at Santa Anita. Old lady of the field should be coming late if she comes at all and hopefully at a price. She is the only one entered for the tag.
#8 CARRIE ROSE- She looks like she's a hanger (20-2-7-6) Has been no worse than 4th in her last six races at various distances and on various surfaces. Mitchell puts her back on the lawn, where she lost by less than 2 lengths to a repeat winner back in November. Making 2nd start off a layoff, in her return she ran 2nd in a statebred stake.

RACE 8
Looks like a pretty poor group where you might want to cast your net wide and try to get a price.

#10 HIDDEN QUEST(2nd)- He's the speed and should get the lead. Not sure if he's going to get any pressure. But just get the feeling that he's going to get weary again with about an 1/8 to go at a very short price to boot.
#9 OUTTA SPLASH(3rd)- Cutting back from two route races back to a sprint. Hoping that will have him doing the running when everyone else is starting to back up. Also the shades are coming off.
#2 THREE LITTLE BIRDS- Only career start number three for this 5 year old. Didn't run bad in first race in almost a year where he had some trouble.
#8 NAVY SEAL SIX(win $10.20)- Making his first start as a 3 year old.Hasn't been seen since October when he finished third at SA. His one race at Hollywood wasn't bad. Works are really nothing to wirte home about, but it seems like we've seen so many put-overs the last couple of weeks that I wonder if this is one.

OTHER OPTIONS
#7 AFFRETTANDO- The old Rudeboyelvis angle. Why not use a firster in a bad field. This horse qualifies on that. Horse seems to be working well, and debuts with Lasix.
#6 NOBYJO-Versitile runner didn't run poorly last out making his first start over the poly. If he improves off that race he could be a factor.

If we are talking something substantial, it's the pick 4 & 5 at Hollywood.
If we are talking about $200-$300 dollars, I'll take a Rangers win.
As much as I love my son, his All Star Game was eased and vanned off on the backstretch. Not even in the equation.

OK. Let's make this more interesting. Same scenerio except you would be unable to attend Little Matt's game.

Listen, if we are talking like a grand here, I'll just get the f'n recap from Mrs. MaTH. Besides he has games all weekend.
This scenario still qualifies in the no-brainer category.

R4 #4 Palio Prince His race 2 back looks good in here. He was up against it last race and I think he has a shot in here.

3/21 lifetime 1/8 on the poly. I think he hits the board, but he seems like he just doesn't like to win. I really like the 3 in that race.

From an old Dad. You can always hit at the races another day but if he hits a homer or even steals a base and you are not there you will regret it because in the long run those days go by too quickly

Printing out all of 16 pages of PP's

Haven't looked passed the 1st race yet, but I think the 6 has every opportunity to bounce off that last - of course the Mitchell ice machine may be cranked up hard

hello all. Just got home late last night from a wonderful 5 day stay in the hospital after back surgery....fusion at 38, sucks.

Gonna try to stay awake for the entire card, tho I havent found much I like up to this point.

I remember the 3 here in the first was a good young horse...not sure where it is in the cycle here tho.

Geez Root! Get well soon - not much consolation I'm sure, but at least you're young enough to heal up quick and get back to good as new

I liked him, but gotta trim to keep it reasonable - I really like the 1 if I'm trying to beat Mitchell here.
