I'm going to say no... from what I've read on here, it appears that the surface isn't the issue with Lava... it's the part about getting on an airplane. I didn't realize he was a stall walker, etc... I guess everyone likes to be "home."

See the difference? Can't win out of New York = eclipse. Can't win out of Cal = grief.

Maybe because the East encompasses a lot of different tracks, i.e. NY, KY and FL, whereas the West is just the same tired SOCAL horses all year long..

Was that supposed to be a joke? Are you trying to be funny? Cause if you werent you sure have me laughing!!!!
Meadowlands runs one short tbred meet and two long harness meets, which is where they make their money. Come on please ok? You want me to believe that the meadowlands is gonna install a synthetic surface and keep ripping it out and reinstalling a harness surface every time they switch meets?
Thats pretty funny!!!!

Ok, then replace Slew o'Gold with Sky Beauty. Or Groovy.

Another brain surgeon. Groovy ran 2nd twice in the cup on the sheet rock out there after killing everyone all year. Geez, what a disgrace huh? You are clueless with facts as well. I wish people actually knew what they were talking about before they posted.

Has Lava Man finished the BCC yet? I just read the first few posts on this thread. "Lava Man didnt look the same when he arrived at CHD"? Probably because he knew he was running against real racehorses. He probably choked when he looked around in the Paddock and saw what he was about to face. No chance, never had a chance, bad move by Oneill, almost as bad as when he sent him to Japan.

Before u go on your tirades and tell other people that they need to know facts, u should know yours. Groovy finished FOURTH in the 1986 BC Sprint, behind Smile, Pine Tree Lane, and Bedside Promise.

now read the other posts about lava man and his 'stall walking'. some horses don't ship. doesn't make him a bad horse, it just means he's a mere mortal.

Why not tell us about Groovy's Ancient Title race out there as well?
You guys crack me up.
Lava Man is a really brave and gutsy horse and a neat story. But please, Ace Blue ain't Invasor ok?

True story as told to be by a blacksmith and racetrack character.
Once upon a time there was a mare who seemed nervous and like an underachiever based on her talent displayed at times so the owner told the trainer to put a goat in with the mare.
The trainer did so and the mare continued to run poorly. About a year and a half later, the goat got sick and died.
Shortly after that the mare displayed a complete form reversal and won 4 races in a row including a stakes race. The owner asked the trainer what he thought caused the turnaround and the trainer replied " I'll tell you what happened, that goat was driving that mare ****ing crazy!!!!!!!" LOL!!!!

Check last week's TT and BH. They both reported Jimmy Takter(harness representative) and Kelly Breen(thoroughbred representative) visiting Michael Dickinson's farm.

Theres a lot more truth to that, I have seen horses kill goats. I tried it once with a lay-up that was fretting, he tossed the goat from the stall and the poor goat was impaled on the top of a chain-link fence!

After reading the responses to your suggestion it appears we can cross you off the list.

Some high-strung horses do very well with goats. But then... some DON'T. The goat is the one at risk... lmao.

Well, he won four grade 1s, three million-dollar races and is currently the all-time leading Cal-bred. Shipping out aside, it wasn't like anyone wanted to come in to California and face him over his home track. You'd think a million bucks would be enough incentive, but the truth is nobody wanted to face him here. And not to make excuses, but I gave him every benefit of the doubt for his three previous clunkers outside of California. Not so much now, but before it was definitely debatable.

My take? California horses spend a lot of time shipping East yet Eastern horses rarely come West. Why is that? And no lame excuses like the tracks are faster here. Plenty of speedy types race on the Right Coast and Cali-based horses still beat them straight up. If anything you'd think that when Cali horses ship they'd find the "deeper" tracks a hurdle.

But that's just me...
Basically the main reason in the past you would see more horses ship East than ship West is that 1. There are more graded stakes to choose form out East and 2. Those races carry much more weight in terms of Prestige. It just doesn't make much sense to go out West and run in the San Whatever Stakes when you can stay home and run in either The Pim Special The Whitney etc. Races that have a storied history. These races carry much more weight when it comes to voting and breeding. Wheather its fair or not is to be debated but it's the fact.

That is an excellent point. It's something the West Coast fans can't either accept or just won't believe. But the East Coast has about three or four Circuits thatn intertwine with each other. The Mid West Circuity, Mid Atlantic, NY and KY and the West Coast has there three tracks and those bull rings up north.
