Default NY Cosmos soccer team plans Belmont Park stadium

http://news.yahoo.com/ny-cosmos-socc...195101359.html

i assume this would be built on the backstretch parking lot?

a lot of money to sink into a team/league that's even lower then the MLS

Seems to be that the site of the Nassau Coliseum would make much more sense for a soccer stadium then Belmont Park now that the Islanders are moving to Brooklyn and the old building is useless. There could be issues with traffic at Belmont, but then again, who would go to a Cosmos game. I submit the over/under on the Cosmos folding at 3 years and I would take the under.

Hard to believe that a MLS team would be worthy of a 400 million dollar stadium let alone a minor league team. I'd be interested to know who is funding since they claim it is privately financed.

I agree. I doubt it is Nassau County since they are broke, their finances are overseen and must be approved by a State Panel since the County has proven they cannot handle their own budget and they would not pony up money to build a new arena for the Islanders.

I can't see why the Cosmos could not continue to play at the existing facility at Hofstra. I find it hard to believe that they draw more fans than the Hofstra soccer team.
